There's another thread with good suggestions now too https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=142339 but I'd like to update my font preference.

In the first Touch firmware that supported new fonts, I disliked the new font Felbridge. However a later firmware included the ability to shrink the line spacing, and after I basically set that to zero it turns out that Felbridge is nicer than my previous favourite.

I'd formerly loathed Serif fonts, a longtime dislike probably created over 20 years of trying to read long texts on computer screens. Helvetica, Arial, etc just work so much better on screen for me. But I'd tried the Caecilia suggestion from earlier in the thread and was an immediate convert.

Unfortunately it turns out that font is NOT free, it's a commercial font from http://www.linotype.com/1313/pmncaecilia-family.html and we shouldn't be using it without having purchased it ourselves. :-( So now I'm still looking for a similar font.

I've seen mention that Lexia DaMa is a clone of Caecilla.

Can we either have photos of the fonts or links to the fonts so we can see? The names don't always mean anything. Thanks.

Here is a screen shot of Lexia DaMa on the Kobo Touch. I only sideloaded the Lexia DaMa Bold and Lexia DaMa Bold Italic files so that it always bolds the text. I like bolded text due to my vision. Second photo zooms in a bit to show more detail, though the page numbers are in the system font.

Hmmm you sure that's real... the text looks a bit slanted :P

Had to say it before Jackastor chimed in

With the Lexia DaMa Bold I'm able to keep the screen refresh set to 6 pages.

Yep, its real. Unfortunately I cannot remember where I got the font though, or whether it was free or cost a bit. I've had it quite while as I used it some on my Sony 350.

It is slanted because the reader is slightly slanted.

It was meant as a total joke! See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...9&postcount=34 for background

If text appears to slant in a Kobo image, it is because the camera is not pointing squarely at the Kobo, as anyone who has ever used a camera would certainly know.

I've tried:
  • Book Antiqua
  • Bookman Old Style
  • Calibri
  • Cambria
  • Charis SIL
  • DejaVu Sans
  • DejaVu Sans Mono
  • DejaVu Serif
  • Droid Serif
  • Friz Quadrata
  • Garamond
  • Garamond Premier Pro
  • Gentium Basic
  • Lexia DaMa
  • Liberation Serif
  • Linux Libertine O
  • Minion Pro
  • Stix General
  • TeX Gyre Bonum
  • TeX Gyre Cursor
  • TeX Gyre Heros
  • TeX Gyre Heros Condensed
  • TeX Gyre Pagella
  • Tex Gyre Termes
  • Univers Else

Currently I have loaded Gentium Book Basic, Linux Biolinum O (no bold italics), Tex Gyre Schola, Segoe UI, and an experimental, modified version of Nimbus (courtesy of delphin). Unlike some other forumites, I can only have five extra fonts on my KT.

The Nimbus Mod is still in development (comes with an easily fixed bug right now). It will soon include italics, bold, semibold, bold italics, and semi-bold italics. I patched my version together from existing packages.

I've looked over two threads here on MR about fonts on the Kobo Touch. Several look pretty good, but honestly, I think I am most satisfied with one I found today: Lora from Google Fonts. In my opinion, it's a beautiful-looking serif font with a nice, tall x height. Very smooth, minimal to no pixelation or blockiness in the curls and serifs and such.

When downloading from Google Fonts, don't forget to check the boxes for all 4 (italic and bold).

I have a new favorite. Was using Lexia DaMa Bold (which is fab). Now using this in bold. Great find!!! Looks very natural. Lovely.
