to enable usb debugging, you need to:

1. Install LaucherPro

2. Longpress the homescreen untill you get the 'Add to Home screen' window.

3. Choose: Shortcuts->Activities->Settings->Development (com.android.settings.DevelopmentSettings)

4. Lauch the newly created Development shortcut and check USB debugging

Problem with installing TTS with 2.0.6 firmware (701 IQ)

I am trying to install additional language pack, and have followed the installation instruction from the pocketbook reader website. I placed the downloaded language pbi file to my external sd card, when I tried to install it from the file explorer, it say "..... not installed".
Tried several times, and I have also deleted 2 of the 4 pre-installed language packages from my device.
Does anyone has the same problem? Any suggestion?

Do the package names have underscores or spaces and/or parenthesis?
The latter don't install until you rename the files to the former nomenclature.

I was a little bit disconnected from updates. Last time I did version 2.0.3
I missed version 2.0.5 and when I try to install version 2.0.6 following instructions on how to install I got the android guy but with a big "!" sign.
My device starts but never installs I repeated the process again and again and got same results
Can anyone please advice on what is this. Could it be that I need version 2.0.5?
If so where can I get it if is not posted @ the website anymore

2.0.6 will install atop any previous PB release, so you don't need 2.0.5.
Make sure the zip file isn't corrupt before copying it to the sd card.

I had the same problem. I ended up flashing 2.02, then 2.06 and then the market hack... and now I am a happy camper!

Is there a description/screenshots of the firmware somewhere? The link takes me to a direct download, and I'd like to see a description of the firmware before trying it.

Also, does it save the apps that are already installed or installs over them? If so, do I need a separate app for backing them up?

Here is the post (it is in russian so you will need to translate with google or Chrome): 4 PDA - 2.0.6 light with changelog

It would be wise to backup since I have flashed it after my stock 2.0.6 crashed so I would not be sure. I think it is supposed to be an update, not a dealer update.

I am also testing it with the DVM-JIT upgrade... seems to be faster so far. I'll back with the results soon.

From what I can tell, the bottleneck for the IQ would be the I/O, not memory or CPU.

The download installs on top of the stock firmware and reconfigures it by deleting some apps and adding others. It is also (apparently) customizable, letting you modify the contents of the update before applying it.

It comes with a readme.txt that translates out as:

2.0.6 dark - the list contains changes from the official 2.0.6.

1. to change the boot image (if you want a different or original - replace logo.img in the archive)
2. Updated OpenGL library (for graphics acceleration)
3. fixed framework (deployed logo "android" Startup, removed the thin strip of lokskrina of Russian interface removed all mention of "phone")
4. Fixed build.prop (to be able to install applications under 2.1)
5. replaced by a system font DroidSansFallback (for the correct transcription)
6. deleted voice engine to facilitate the archive, they can be doustanovit after the firmware by downloading from the official site.
7. removed from the pre-software:
- Launcher (main desk)
- Development (development tool)
- Terminal
- Sudoku
- Alarm clock
- Slideme (Application Vault)
- AndroidAppClient (collection of links to Web Application Vault)
- Browser
- TelephonyProvider
- SpareParts (setup, which never used)
- Built-in software PocketBook (widget, bookshelf, calendar, notes, registration at Bookland)
8. that the addition of pre-installed applications:
- LauncherProPlus 0.8.4.1
- DolphinBrowserHD 4.5.0
9. if you want to add something to the pre-application, before flashing open the archive and drag vinrarom you need apk to a folder system / app - these applications will be established in the NAND-memory.
10. enabled usb-debug immediately after flashing.
11. added preset dictionaries - English-Russian Apresian and Russian-English Smirnitsky. After installing the update unnecessary dictionaries can be carried in the Settings-> Applications-> Manage Packages-> long tap on a dictionary.
12. added Flash 9 Lite. In order to work, you need a file manager to go on the path / system / app and run from there FlashPlugin.apk to replace the system applications.
13. What did not change, remove, add:
- Do not update JIT (pre-JIT in 2.0.5 is quite stable and productive, after replacing the other - except for the higher numbers in the Linpack benchmark performance increase is nowhere is not observed)
- Not to remove the file manager, and manage packages from the Pocketbook - they can be used to install more additional voice engine without a root-and.
- Not to remove the Email client - I understand they still enjoy, and even now is not overloaded device when adding the account.
- Not to remove the reader from the Pocketbook - works well with some formats, the list of programs it is not visible, you can select when you open a workbook from the file manager, added to the system BooksProvider in order to avoid crashes on exit.
- Not to remove the system keyboard, because it is rather tightly integrated into the system.
- Did not install busybox and SuperUser for root-and (who should be - open archive vinrarom, drag the folder _root of the system anywhere from the archive, remove the lower slash in the name of the folder and drag the root back into the archive to a folder system, while returns SDK = 5 build.prop. Unpack the archive and rename the folder inside the archive can not.) Together with Ruth established once and RootExplorer.

I have tested the DVM-JIT patch and, while it is faster (mostly for the CPU), it slows graphics down and makes it a bit more sluggish. I have decided to revert to the libdvm.so coming with the firmware.

I will make some more tests with other options. I have found a way to make the I/O faster (by converting the filesystem to ext2) so we will see how it goes. If it works, that would bring dramatic improvements.

You need to do this to fix the superuser problem: Enable Su. It will work fine afetrward.

I installed it this morning and have been trying it out; I'm mostly satisfied with the things it removed, but I quite liked the main desk which showed me the books read and the percentage of total books read. Can that be re-installed? Or is there an app that would do the same for me?

Also, if anyone knows, I decided to try GO Launcher and was wondering if there's a non-market source for the themes? I wasn't able to find one.

ETA: Oh yes, and about voice packages, it tells me it can't install them. Is there anything special I need to do?
