@name: i don't want to spoil the ending, but the US did strike a deal with the japanese scientists; they wanted the medical information in exchange for keeping them from being prosecuted. it undoubtedly helped medicine advance, as they shot the patients with different kinds of viruses and then tried to treat them. i believe russia also played a part but i forgot; i read it a long time ago for my japanese history class.

In addition, some science books should be released from copyrights in some poor regions. The problem of time restrictions on copyright, especially when they are linked to the creator, is what if the work was created by committee? Would the rights to copy be distributed among all those involved in the creation? What would happen when one member of the committee died, along with their entire nuclear family in a horrible accident? Would the share to the rights be split up between the other members of the committee?

Rights have tended to be sold in the past, would we have to end this practice of selling copyright in order to keep these rights in the hands of the creator? How would we deal with works created by committee, where one member wishes to sell their portion of the rights to another committee? Does this kind of stuff happen already?? I suspect it does.

I do agree that all non-fiction should be unable to be copyrighted, but there are those (myself included) who believe that the line between fiction and non-fiction is too blurry to distinguish between the two. What then?

It would seem to be far simpler to abandon copyright while at the same time developing a new system for payments to the creator.

This new system should allow the full text of a work to be read and thought about before the reader decides whether or not the work is worth a few coins.

The head Japanese biological warfare research guy (who was responsible for dropping bombs with deadly bacteria on Chinese cities as a method for large-scale experimentation and who experimented on people with various biological agents making them die in very painfull and ugly deaths) made a deal with the Americans and surrendered his research notes to them in return for going completely free and unpunished. Talk about justice for war criminals.

Cats aren't necessarily selfish. I have a cat that goes wherever i go, sleeps on my bed and sits on my lap whenever i watch tv. She'll also lick my hair whenever i lay down.
