I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but are there some resources that can help me understand how the jailbreak works and how to write KUAL apps?

Ugh, really? I just got a brand new KPW5SE and it's on 5.14.3.0.1

Just bumping so I can see if someday 5.14.03 can be jailbroken. I didn't choose this update it sneaked-installed itself on the 0.2ms I left the wifi on, and seeing as it's "hardened against vulnerabilities" by the same jailbreak devs, I'm religiously f*cked on getting a simple dark mode on my kindle in the foreseeable future.

So anyways, bump and hope for the best.

Hello Niluje,

I'm certain you've answered this multiple times or at least a variant of this but I'll still want you to answer this please.

My kindle PW4 was jailbroken sometime in August 2020. It was never updated until a few weeks ago when i tried to upgrade to 14.2. I was too excited to remember to go in flight mode and the device promptly updated to 14.3. Also, I didn't realize what was happening at the time. Between then and now the device has been restarted a million times.

Is my jailbreak still salvageable? Is it still hiding somewhere and can be retrieved?

Install the latest JB hotfix, if it works, you're done; if it doesn't, read the first post again for good measure and context, and then check if this helps.

Hi there,

I have a G090 LL kindle. 32GB model from Japan. Connected to the Internet before, has no ads. WiFi only. White bezel. Someone else did mention this model years ago in this thread, but recieved no reply. Can this model be jailbroken? Currently on FW 5.12.3. Thanks!

Hey Niluje!

You're the best!

We had a baby shortly after my post and I never got a chance to come back here.

I just tried the steps in #26 et voila! It worked!

Took me a while to figure out what "this" was in the post.
Also, it needed a reboot to make the four files disappear and another reboot after that to install the hotfix. Otherwise, it just gives the 007 error.

Once again, thanks for all you do!

I'm screwed! Again! I turned on wifi to transfer some files and the damned kindle updated to 5.15.1

Kual fails to load, "Application Error The selected application could not be started. Please try again".

Tried the recovery trick again, the four files disappeared but the next steps didn't work.

HELP!!!

I have a PW3 2015 with 5.15.1 and was hoping there's a way to JB this since it's an older model despite the current FW requirements on the post. Otherwise is there a way I can find out when it's possible to JB this for KOreader?

Popcorn should work on a PW3 with any firmware. This jailbreak however has a hardware component and requires opening your Kindle.

After a long period of absence, I was glad to learn about WatchThis JB yesterday. Thanks to @katadelos, I managed to JB my Kindle Oasis (9th Generation) yesterday. Installed JB Hotfix, MRPI, and KUAL, and then instead of installing custom packages from scratch, I copied my current ones from my Kindle Voyage.

However, having installed everything from scratch this time using @NiLuJe's Snapshots, I have noticed that USBNetwork had stopped working. Not that it doesn't work actually, * SSHD is up (usbms, wifi only) *. But I am asked for password although I have /mnt/us/usbnet/etc/authorized_keys in place. Code must have changed between versions 0.22.N @18289 on 2021-Mar-25 @18:22 and 0.22.N @18981 on 22-Oct-02 @03:32. I switched back to v 0.22.N @18289 copying the files I have backed up. All is fine.

Any pointers would be much appreciated for I would not like to go back to SSH over USB to configure USBNetwork from the start.

@oumlaut: Unless you switched to OpenSSH, the fact that it *rejects* a password tells me you might simply not be connecting to the right IP

The default setup uses dropbear and will accept *any* input as the password (so, just hit enter).

(Keep in mind swapping the config manually is *not* safe outside of USBMS mode. i.e., doing it live over SSH will result in undefined behavior).
