Thinking of my Queensland friends and family. Luckily they haven't been affected yet.

My best wishes to anyone who is in the flood-affected areas or has friends or relatives up there. I was a Brisbane girl once and still have family up there - thankfully none were flooded. My sister, near Withcott, went without power for many days and houses in her area were washed away. There have been some harrowing stories told by the survivors but the stoic 'get on with it' attitude, the community spirit where thousands of volunteers have got in there to help clean up, and the humour in spite of it all - a bull shark spotted swimming up the main street of a town - have made me proud of my countrymen.

Went to help cleaning up over weekend - that mud is bad, bad, bad. It stinks to heaven and is toxic as hell. So everyone out there helping, be careful & get tet shots if you get scratched Going back for more shit shoveling on Tuesday. No-brainer that, so I qualify. |

The clean-up volunteers are amazing! I have never seen anything like it... Thousands of people, like Katti, turning up with their own equipment and just helping... Katti, you're one of the true heroes... and you're right... It stinks! | |

I'm not a hero - just a person lucky not to have been effected.

I know the government is doing all it can in Queensland at the moment - but over 60,000 people registered to help with the clean up and nothing gets organised. At the end we all drive around wasting valuable time to find places we can help. That of course means we are clogging up the roads and it takes even longer to get to places. Very frustrating. By now I am looking at facebook (wouldn't have thought i ever use it) to find places to help out at.
