Someone mentioned here that there is a new setting called "KFT" without an icon in the settings menu.

Maybe it was under tests and they didn't finish it or hide properly.

This is on Kindle Scribe 2022 FW 5.17.2

I also get "Application Error" right after ;log mrpi installs things.
After this, Kindle hangs up for a good minute or two.
Then it shows the home screen and generates those huge log files in documents.

I was able to mildly mitigate this by adding a new empty file called DISABLE_CORE_DUMP

Now it hangs up only for 10-15 seconds after mrpi and no extra log files are being created.

To make it a bit clearer, to quote the Prequisites from the WinterBreak home page on the Kindle Modding Wiki:

Prerequisites:

• You will need a PC
• Your Kindle must be registered
• Your Kindle must have a valid, internet-connected WiFi network saved to it that it can connect to during steps 8 to 10 (inclusive)

Finally, I succeed.

In order to load mesquito, the kindle should read the modified local cached webpage instead of online real kindle store.

So the solution is trying to preload some contents of kindle store by view some pages in the store. Then you click the store icon, the kindle will load the cached webpages. So the ".active_content_sandbox" folder can be copied to kindle to replace the real cache. After rebooting of the kindle, this modified page which is mesquito will be loaded by clicking the store icon.

Then following the steps, you are jailbroken.

It's been several months since I accidentally let my Oasis update itself and despite trying a couple of times I never got it jailbroken again.

This has worked (first time) and so one of my favourite devices has Koreader again.

Kudos on the website too - very well laid out and easy to follow.

The new 2024 scribe is not compatible with this current jailbreak but I think HackerDude would like some help regarding its jailbreak… I didn’t go ahead with it because I’m terrified of bricking my $700 device !

Thank you for this pointer to Marek's nightly build of Koreader. It was the first version that I installed that would launch properly on my Kindle Paperwhite (Gen 10) running 5.17.1.0.3 and the Winterbreak jailbreak.

Many thanks for the JB!

I have been able to install Winterbreak, install / run the hotfix "book", and install Kual + MrPi, which allowed me to disable the OTA Updates, using the renameotabin file.

I downloaded KOReader-kindlepw-v2024.11.zip and installed it on my kindle.

Now when I click on the KUAL "book", I get an error message:

"Application Error: the selected application could not be started. Please try again."

I'm not sure what I've done wrong or how to fix it.

Suggestions?

PS don't know if this is relevant or not, but the KUAL booklet had both "Update_KUALBooklet_18b218e_install.bin" and "Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_18b218e_install.bin " in the archive file. Since the instructions said to put "Update_KUALBooklet_*_install.bin", I assumed I should put both these files on the Kindle.

Did you try dowloading the kindlehf (hard float) version? You can grab Marek's version from https://fw.notmarek.com/khf/koreader/? This version has an odd extension of .targz. On Windows, I used 7-Zip to open it (right-click, 7-Zip => Open archive), otherwise rename it to .tar.gz to allow it be opened. I'm not sure if the version from the KOReader nightlies will work.

my kindle pw 5 is already jailbroken (fw 5.16.2.1.1) with language break. i am considering doing this newer one, as I saw people saying that the new firmware is snappier, those who have updated from around 5.16.2.1.1 to the newer firmware and then did jailbreak can they give some input

The Kindle has to be registered. If it's blacklisted, you cannot jailbreak.
