Succesful jailbreak in PW6, firmware 5.17.1.0.4
Well, title says everything. This Paperwhite has and incredible screen, even compared to the powerful Kobo Libra 2 BW. Now that the PW6 can be jailbroken, and with KOreader, this is, in my opinion, nearly a perfect device (physical buttons, meh, I can live without them).
I used Marek's nightly build of KOreader as suggested by Hondabf. Enourmous thanks to all the team that made possible this Jail Break. Remember, everyone, the developers have a Ko-Fi (https://ko-fi.com/hackerdude). I think is only ethical to cooperate with them to continue to have free culture, free devices and, in the future, free ereader hardware. |

Hi friends, I have 2 questions to ask for help, maybe @HackerDude you has idea
1/ What is KFT item ? It appears in the setting, some people already asked but still no one can answer. 2/ Is there any tip to hide the Run Hotfix book? it keeps moving to the recent list and easy to touch by mistake. Thank you so much! |

I'm having trouble posting new replies on this site, but I was trying to close off my prior two posts saying that I somehow fixed my issue and now I completed the installation tutorial. Now I would love tips on what's the best stuff to run on a modern Kindle device! Some of the programs are outdated and might not run. KOReader is especially an absolute gem and would be one of the key motivators for users to do all this (BTW, the specific version linked here cannot be updated from the app apparently.. is there anything we can do to fix it so it'll update when one is available?). |

try to add some successful experience
tested on my device: kpw4 5.17.1.03 and k8 5.16.2
I failed a lot when following the official instruction. My experience might be helpful to others have same situation. Experience from user on #142 might be helpful, plug in or restart device with the screen stay at shop page. -delete ".active_content_sandbox/store/resource/LocalStorage" or replace the whole ".active_content_sandbox" file -unplug and restart (don't need to turn on flight mode) -(Be careful) after restarting, wait the wifi connecting. When the wifi logo at the up right corner shows, press the shop button IMMEDIATELY!!! Then it goes into WinterBreak page. I tried this for several times and succeeded. I guess in official instruction, wifi connection cost too long time in shop page (maybe also affected by my poor internet connecting). So it's better to get in the shop when the wifi is just connected. **For koreader on my kpw4 5.17.1.03, only Marek's Builds works (even the files has same name and No. series from nightly builds website didn't work). |

Successful jailbreak of Kindle Basic 11th gen
As per title, I confirm the successful jailbreaking of the device (serial starting with G092 AP03) on 5.16.4 firmware.
Run jb_hotfix, installed kual, mrpi and kual hotfix (wouldn't work without the hotfix), installed renameotabin and koreader (koreader-kindlehf-v2024.11-128-g5bd3f3b42_2025-01-07.zip). Haven't checked yet whether renameotabin works or not. Thanks to all the developers and the people involved! |

WinterBreak Script does not start
Hey guys, what an accomplishment - I've been waiting for a new jailbreak
![]() A factory reset did not help. I am using a Gen 11 PW with the 5.17.1.0.3 FW. The device has not been jailbroken before. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ![]() |

Dear @HackerDude and team!
Thank you for your winter break, which I think brings together what belongs together: the wonderful KOReader and the really whtie KindlePaperwhite (version 10) I have now installed everything according to the instructions so that it works fine. Two quick questions: 1) Do I need to do anything else to protect the Winterbreak resp. the other installations (I am using KUAL and MRInstaller) from a future official A. update? 2) Where can I buy you a coffee? Thank you and many, many greetings Kind regards VF |

You can also check the KOReader Nightlies and see what is available there. Currently, they have a KindleHF version from 2025-Jan-07. If you set the update server to ota.koreader.rocks and select the developement channel, I think this will allow you to install a nightly build OTA. If not, a manual download, unpack and copy will work. Edit: If you do the update and it doesn't work, you can always copy the working version back your Kindle to restore KOReader to a working version. Last edited by DNSB; 01-07-2025 at 04:19 PM. Another successful jailbreak on a new PW6 with firmware 5.17.1.0.4. If I remember correctly, I did get an error message while installing KUAL/MRPI, but I ignored it and both installed just fine in spite of it. I now have KORreader installed as well.
Thanks to HackerDude and all others involved in producing this jailbreak. |

I tried to jail break it, even following the steps with the factory resetting but every time, it loads onto the kindle store like normal.

I already tried: 1. factory reset and insert the winterbreak files BEFORE registering my kindle ((multiple times.) 2. replace the .active_content_sandbox after factory reset, and (another FR) after opening the store then rebooting my kindle 3. airplane mode is turned on before opening the store did anyone encountered the same problem like mine? Im going insane trying to find a fix for this and vvv concerned for the mulitple factory reset that I did hahahah |
