Hacks Help: Kindle 3 Keyboard - Where to start

Hey all, new user. I finally dug out my old Kindle 3 Keyboard and thought I'd get back into reading again. Charged it today and it works like a champ.

I'd like to try my hand at some hacks, primarily the note taking hack and the custom wallpapers. Problem is, there's so many version numbers floating around here with so many different downloads that I'm feeling a bit lost.

So I come to you for some help. As mentioned, I have the Keyboard Kindle (Gen 3) with firmware 343 on the B008 model. What should I download first? I've looked at these threads:

This and this one but I feel like a monkey with a mirror.

Appreciate any help.

I realize this isn't a new device, so probably not many people too keen on replying. But would appreciate anyone who could lend me a hand. I've gone through the linked threads again and am still feeling like an idiot.

So when the downloads say something like, "kindle-python-0.14.N-k2.zip" does that "k2" mean "Kindle 2"?
