Hi,
I was wondering if this was normal : I got a Libra H2O working OK and all, but the thing is: the eInk screen drastically slows down when exposed not so cold-temperatures, e. g. 58-60 °F / 16 °C. For example, when I refresh the screen when reading a book at room temp (71 °F / 22 °C, normally it takes about 1/8th of a second. At 59 °F / 15 °C, it takes one second or even more. If the temperature drops even below things don't improve. So... should I return my Kobo and ask for a new one without this problem (hopefully) or is it normal for that type of screen? Thanks! |

Cold = slower, warm = faster (until it gets so very much slower again ;D).
That said, I'd check if it's actually the *refresh* getting slower, or something else (CPU failing to clock up fast enough?). It feels a bit too extreme, though, as I remember using a Forma at high altitude (so ~0°C, possibly below, which is technically out of specs ^^) with no extreme results. You could check dmesg to see if the thermistor is borked or something, part of the usual dmesg spam is the battery & EPDC temp. |

Well... to try the stuff from dmesg and all... or am I wrong? It's summer in my place right now and I discovered that when I went for camping to a colder region of my country.
So fridge is the only way to recreate that, I think (I know it's 4-5°C, I'll try not to leave it too much time so it doesn't get too cold) |

Also, battery chemistry probably doesn't like it all that much either (there's a reason the only two things spamming temp readings are the PMU and the EPDC ^^).

At least down to 10°C has been fine on all my eink, inc Kindle PW3, Kindle DXG,Sony PRS350, original H2O and Libra.
We don't waste energy on heating, so we have little heat at night and house day time is 18 to 20 except in hot weather. Air con is virtually unknown here except in larger shops. I've used it outdoors at 10°C to 16°C. It sounds like something is broken. |
