Is the startup screen slowing the boot?
So I have a question for iRex: is the startup screen slowing the boot?
The reason I ask is because it appears iRex's FPGA can't do partial e-ink updates, it has to push the whole framebuffer into the e-ink panel. My timings have demonstrated that when the FPGA grabs the contents of the framebuffer the CPU runs 10 times slower for periods of .5 second or longer (depending on wether you do dmQFull or dmQTyping.) So while it's wonderful to have that fuel guage marching across the bottom of the screen, how much time is that costing us during boot up? |

Not a lot. It is not using a full update but painting small sprites directly at those locations with a fast B&W waveform.

So partial updates are possible then... that would be far better for x48 than the full screen updates.

No, what is possible is stamping pre-defined bitmaps in Black and White mode. Like we do for the cursor in the contentLister and for the "Knight Rider" and boot screen.
There is no nice interface yet to do this with custom bitmaps. |

Night Rider
I guess the "Night Rider" is what you see when loading PDF's and possibly other files.
I is a bit like the hourglass. Just to keep you waiting (something seems to be going on :-) ). No info about how long you have to wait (where you are in the process), like in the start-up screen. |
