What is a good name for a cross-publisher ebook search engine?
11:25 AM by acidzebra in E-Book General | News Gianfranco is working on an ebook search engine idea to enable consumers to shop for availability and lowest price and such across a range of sites. The current working name is UESE (Unified Ebook Search Engine), and I thought that maybe this community could come up with a name that rolled off the tongue a little better? So post your creative suggestions in this thread! |

News.com: Music, movie lobbyists push to spy on your Net traffic

11:23 AM by Steven Lyle Jordan in E-Book General | News
Clearly the pressure is still on to enact direct ISP support of content monitoring and filtering, encouraged by government-supported progress in other countries, and followed up by U.S. government regulations that will cement such relationships. The content industries are working by the numbers, and the ISPs aren't exactly putting up a fight about it... they are just publicly stating that they do not want to restrict their customers' ability to get content, without being any more specific. This reads like the writing is already on the wall, whether consumers want to face it or not. |

Please request this book at Amazon/Sony
08:34 AM by daffy4u in E-Book General | Reading Recommendations Since Amazon has added the "Please tell the publisher I'd like this book on the Kindle" link, we might be able to help each other get the books we want. Please add a link to the book(s) you would like to see Kindle-ized, Sony-fied. Hopefully everyone reading this thread will click the link for you and you will click links for them. Win-Win! Edit: Adding the Sony info provided by JSWolf
After trying the find one of the books already listed below at the Sony store, I'm going to assume that any book submitted will have to use the request the title link. I'm am submitting everything on the list so far to Sony. If they happen to have one of them already... oh well. Edit: A little maintenance. I'll add everyone's links to this post as well to make them easier for folks to find.

MobileRead Washington, DC Area Meet-up Saturday, August 23rd in Herndon, Virginia Starting at 5:00 pm (17:00) Euro Bistro, 314 Elden Street (corner of Elden and Herndon Parkway) 703-481-8158 See Nate’s fantastic collection of reading devices, meet old friends for the first time, enjoy great food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere at MobileRead’s first Meet-up in the Washington area. Attendees may include the following:
Plus possible special guest appearance by Bob Russell and two (2) friends These are just the ones that I know about now. Some of them may be bringing their friends (for the sake of brevity, “friends” include wives, husbands, lovers, friends, people you met in the parking lot on the way in, etc. In my case, wife.) There will be space to accommodate all who do show up so don’t worry about bringing that “extra” guest, they are welcome so bring them. Dress is casual (although one has indicated that they are coming by between a wedding and the reception and will be dressed a bit more formerly.) There is currently no WiFi at the restaurant and I will see what I can do this week to add that if it is of interest to the attendees. PM me if you are interested in WiFi. Any general questions, please post them here. Any specific questions please PM me. I hope to see all of you there on Saturday. |

Beedle the Bard available on 4 December 2008!
06:29 PM by Nate the great in E-Book General | News I was just at my local Borders bookstore, and I came across a sign advertising the upcoming release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard (aka HP and the Quest for More Money). You can preorder your copy here. You can also find it on Amazon. I'm sure you're wondering about the ebook edition. Due to the author's paranoia about digital piracy, there will be no legal ebook of this work. |
