Can't install 1.5 on 64 MB Cybook
I've tried numerous things: taking all my ebooks off the device, off the card, etc. Putting the update kernel in the device, in the card. No matter what I do, pressing and holding down the button (for a long long time) just brings up the (now non-) library as before.
The card is fine, and is FAT32. Suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Switched to XP netbook, worked fine
Apparently choosing "fix errors" on disk using Win 7 is NOT a good idea when working with this update (even though the books were all there, and worked fine, the update would just not install.) Reformatted the SD card on my netbook, and the thing finally registered.

Is the device recognising the SD card? Do you see the "SD" symbol at the lower right of the library screen when it boots? If so, you're probably not holding the "OK" button in long enough. You need to press it in as soon the the initial boot screen appears, and hold it in until the firmware updater launches - this can take 30s or so.

I'm having the same problem installing the new firmware (1.5) on my old Cybook Gen 3. I'm using a 2GB SD card with nothing but the kernel on it. The Cybook recognizes the SD card, but when I hold down the center button on start-up, I can't get it to start installing the new firmware. Each time, I've held the button down firmly--up until it boots onto the library page and opens the last viewed document.
I tried reformatting the SD card (FAT again, as before) and putting the kernel back on, taking out and reinserting the SD card (with the power off), and many attempts to get the firmware to load, all to no avail. Anyone have any ideas what else I can do? |

This is just a guess here. But maybe removing your content from the internal memory might help in case you need more of it available for the flashing process,

Thanks, but I have very little on the Cybook itself--basically just the users' manual and my dictionary. I keep all my books on an SD card (a different one than I'm trying to use for the update).

I used another one, without any problem. Other people said you have to put your Cybook on a table (for instance), and use a pencil (or similar) to push the central button without touching the peripheral ones. Good luck, the update is worth the pain ! ![]() |
