Conversion smartens punctuation even when disabled
Today I converted a few TXT files to EPUB and noticed that the conversion process smartens punctuation even when it's not enabled in Look & Feel. Might be true for other formats as well, but haven't tested it because I don't have any with plain ascii formatting. Using 9.14 - are there any other settings which might control this, or is this an actual bug?

You do know Calibre tends to store the settings that were used PER BOOK.
![]() So, if you change Preferences:Conversion:common Options (that is the place to set the default to initially use) at a later time, it will still use those from the previous run on that book. There is a reset default at the bottom of the conversion screen that appears at the beginning of a conversion. That (re)loads the current Preferences. OR You can adjust the individual books setting at the start of each run. That will be saved . |

The per book saved settings can be removed from the library database via Bulk Metadata edit
Added: Unless there's a good reason to keep them, I always remove them once I'm satisfied with the conversion. BR Last edited by BetterRed; Yesterday at 06:05 PM. |

These are TXT files that have been sitting in my library untouched to this date, so they haven't been converted before. Also, if I reset the conversion settings to defaults in the Conversion screen, the result is still the same: the file gets smartened regardless of settings.
