Calibre doesn't close immediately

I have recently noticed that using the X in the top right corner of Calibre does not shut it down anymore, it closes it to the tray. So then you have to click the tray icon and tell it to quit.
Can someone please tell me how to stop it closing to the tray and just close like any other program?

I checked preferences before posting, and just rechecked and there is definitely not an enable system tray icon in there.
I will look through the entirety of preferences again and see if I can find it.

Ahh I found the button in Look and Feel. However, while that forces Calibre to close when you click the X, it stops the icon showing at all. I don't mind the icon showing when the program is open, I just want it to close properly when I click the X.

Do you have the Settings Backup (I don't know the exact name) plugin installed?

I don't have a plugin called anything to do with backup. I found one called backup configuration folder, but that doesn't seem to have relevance to me?

That is how system tray icons behave. When you close the window the application continues running behind the system tray icon. If you want closing to quit the application, dont use system tray icons.

Yes, that's the one backing up settings.

Yes it does. It is a 'on close' task.
Similar is the 'Eject device' task. Those run until completed (important as many slow device buffer writes and yanking the plug leads to corruption.)

I'm confused. I never mentioned backups?

You mentioned you could not find the system tray setting in the Preferences. People often post here about something that used to work in the past, but after updating/reinstalling/getting a new computer no longer does, and they can't find the setting for it. Backing up your settings would hopefully avoid that.

Not necessarily anything to do with your current issue.

Note: if you change that setting you must restart calibre for it to take effect.

I haven't changed my computer. Anyone who uses Calibre regularly will know it always closed when you closed it. Now, it closes to the tray and you have to click on the icon and quit. I've never had to do that in all the years I've used Calibre. Yes I can click that box and it closes properly but the icon isn't there even while using it, which it used to be. So there has been a change, but not one that backing up could help me with.
It probably is from the latest update, as It's never happened before.

If the config gets corrupted, calibre generates a New ONE: Default, without your custom settings. If you have many, you may notice other stuff not as it was.

I have never had any custom settings that I know of. I've got some plugins, they all seem fine.
