Any fat FANTASY or HORROR books with the word JADE as part of the title?
I'm looking for something mysterious and immersive, and/or full of Horror and Fantasy.
DANGER, WILL ROBINSON: No 'Romance/Whatever' hybrids - PLEASE. The longer the book, the better. (But I'll check out any length.) Series are OK, as long as it's the first book in the series. I lean more toward the horror aspect, but the title of this thread says it all. (Even Sax Rohmer 'old style' oriental-type books are perfectly fine.) And now for the obligatory "Thanks in advance"! "House of Leaves" by Mark Danielewski. Not terribly long, but definitely a little fantasy and a little bit unsettling (horror-light).
Ah... I seemed to have missed the "Jade" titular requirement. Apologies. How about: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...e_Jade_Unicorn Last edited by neil_swann80; 05-04-2025 at 09:08 AM. |

With the word "Jade" in the title? That's incredibly specific, but I suppose you have your reasons.
I'm sure you can use a search engine as well as any of us ![]() I'll also tentatively mention Amber Chen "Of Jade and Dragons", first in a series. I haven't read it, but it's compared to Xiran Jay Zhao's "Iron Widow", and that one is very good (and dark, and harsh), so if the comparison is good this might be something to check out. (Naomi Novik's excellent Temeraire series (Napoelonic war with dragons) has "Throne of Jade" as its second book. So close, but doesn't fit your criteria.) |

I'm afraid it doesn't have the word Jade in it (don't know how much of a deal breaker it is) but my all time favourite horror novel and one I strongly recommend is Stephen Kings IT - and its 1,200 pages long!
If you've never tried Stephen King and you think he might not be for you I would still suggest trying IT - yes it's a horror novel but it's also a novel about the unbreakable friendships you have as youngsters - or so you believe - that time slowly breaks, it's about the highs and lows of being a child/ young teenager, and the endless days of summer. For me it perfectly captures the feelings of childhood/ adolescents. It is the one book of mine that I have read more than any other, and it's the book that got me into reading so holds a special place in my heart ![]() ** Be warned there are a couple of scenes in the book some people (including myself) may find disagreeable/ hard to digest - but they don't ruin the book** Last edited by Graham44; 05-04-2025 at 04:47 PM. |

Andre Norton wrote "The White Jade Fox", which was fantasy and very low grade horror (more of a suspense novel). It is a slim book, but worth reading if you like other books by the author.

I know not all of these books have Jade in the title, but they are part of a series and very good.
Code:
Naomi Novik Temeraire 1. Temeraire (2006) 2. The Throne of Jade (2006) 3. Black Powder War (2006) 4. Empire of Ivory (2007) 5. Victory of Eagles (2008) 6. Tongues of Serpents (2010) 7. Crucible of Gold (2012) 8. Blood of Tyrants (2013) 9. League of Dragons (2016) |

Thanks for mentioning that one; I had completely forgotten about it! I'm going to buy it now and replace the bland new cover with the beautifully evocative older cover. [See below.] |
