Kobo Header Query

I have a few ebooks on my Kobo Auro where the text in the header is so long it pushes the “pages left in chapter” off the end.

I noticed that the text seemed to correspond with the chapter title so I thought if I edited the chapter title this would change the header text, but it didn’t.

Is there a way to edit header text?

Thanks.

There's a patch for removing the title from the header/footer. But editing the chapter title should work too, only you must edit it in the TOC, not in the book. Calibre has a "Edit TOC" feature.

Thanks for your help Sirtel

For the epub I pressed the Edit Book Button > Tools > Table of Contents to get a window Edit the ToC in "the book name". If I edit the chapter titles, save, convert to kepub and send to my Kobo, I get a book with the title changed but not the header.

Am I more or less do it right this way, in which case I'll have to investigate what I'm doing wrong or is this not the way to do it?

Thanks for your help Sirtel

Hmm, I thought that was the right way too.

Maybe you need to change the chapter titles in the book itself, then. That is, in the html files you see in the editor.

Apologies for wasting your time but I must have done something silly. I just retraced my steps and it worked this time. Don't know what I did perhaps I didn't save it properly but anyway your suggestion works.

Thanks again for your time and patience.

No need to apologize, glad it worked.

If your editing a book that's already on your Kobo and then sending it to your Kobo to overlay the ToC, you'll need to use Kobo Utilities with calibre to redo the ToC on your Kobo. The ToC gets loaded into the database and if you edit the ToC, then you need to update the database.

That's not necessary if you delete the book from the Kobo first.

You do not need to worry about any of that unless you have selected Do not treat replacements as new books in the KoboTouch driver configuration. Otherwise, the newly sent ebook will be imported overwriting the database entries for the old copy of the ebook.
