New Amazon KDP rule due to "AI"

On the face of it, this is absolutely hilarious, the notion that an author might be limited to cranking out only three books a day. Seriously, who reads this carp? For those of us who've always held that the effort/return ratio for seeking out the odd gem in the dross of self-pubbed books is astronomical (if you put any value at all on your time, you might as well pay for something decent), it's yet more proof.

Heck, change it to the already prolific Stephen and Tabitha, and it's still absurd.

Certainly a rate of three a day will let them clear it out in fairly short order.

As we previously shared, we are actively monitoring the rapid evolution of generative AI and the impact it is having on reading, writing, and publishing, and we remain committed to providing the best possible shopping, reading, and publishing experience for our authors and customers.

While we have not seen a spike in our publishing numbers, in order to help protect against abuse, we are lowering the volume limits we have in place on new title creations. Very few publishers will be impacted by this change and those who are will be notified and have the option to seek an exception.

As always, all KDP publishers must adhere to our KDP content guidelines, regardless of how the content was created.

We will continue to keep the interests of our authors, publishers, and readers at the forefront of our thinking and decision-making.

Thank you for being a part of the KDP community.

A previously published author seeking to bring their back catalog to KDP would likely qualify for an exception.

They might not expect anyone to actually read it. It could well be a way to launder money or validate stolen credit card info. A few low price transactions might not be noticed on a billing statement.

One every three days would be enough. Also this only applies to KDP. Bigger publishers don't use KDP.

Also Publicity & Marketing, so even one every 3 weeks is plenty. A 3 a day limit is pointless.

Agreed, 3 a day of AI generated is too muddled

I do hope they will have to later have a disclaimer created by AI so people can avoid if they want, and filter out in search

A photo site I use has all their created by AI photos for vectors marked, which I appreciate

KDP has a new rule that publishers have to disclose to them when content is AI generated. From the KDP Content Guidelines:

Artificial intelligence (AI) content (text, images, or translations)

We require you to inform us of AI-generated content (text, images, or translations) when you publish a new book or make edits to and republish an existing book through KDP. AI-generated images include cover and interior images and artwork. You are not required to disclose AI-assisted content. We distinguish between AI-generated and AI-assisted content as follows:

AI-generated: We define AI-generated content as text, images, or translations created by an AI-based tool. If you used an AI-based tool to create the actual content (whether text, images, or translations), it is considered "AI-generated," even if you applied substantial edits afterwards.

AI-assisted: If you created the content yourself, and used AI-based tools to edit, refine, error-check, or otherwise improve that content (whether text or images), then it is considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.” Similarly, if you used an AI-based tool to brainstorm and generate ideas, but ultimately created the text or images yourself, this is also considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.” It is not necessary to inform us of the use of such tools or processes.

You are responsible for verifying that all AI-generated and/or AI-assisted content adheres to all content guidelines, including by complying with all applicable intellectual property rights.

They say nothing about disclosing this information to customers.
