kobo mini KO install not showing

hi i installed into my kobo mini the KO reader from here:-

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=314220

i extracted it to root and rebooted as per the instructions and it processed the update and it shows in the form of rectangular black screen when switched off and when switching it on it confirms it been installed via a brief message.

however i cannot find the KO reader in Home or library or Menu or Settings
and it did not install a back button in the offline search either which was my main motivation.

The kobo mini works just as well as before but no KO reader.

Any idea what to do now?

Did you install it with NickelMenu or without. If without, you would have gotten KFMon and you should have a png file showing in your books which would launch KOReader when opened. Personally, I prefer using NickelMenu.

That is likely your issue. Without KFMon or NickelMenu you would be unable to launch KOReader.

I would suggest using the script from the second message in this thread to do the install. You should be able to overwrite your current KOReader install.

Why do you want to uninstall KOReader? A simple overwrite with the package containing NickelMenu and KOReader will do the job which you seemed to want of installing KOReader and a means of launching it.

A simple delete of the KOReader directory in the .adds directory in the root of your Kobo will remove KOReader.

And shouting is simply rude.

Sorry i must have hit the caps key...

i managed to find the ko file in library and launched and the ko reader seems to have plenty of options but the one i needed was a back button on the file search on the kobo mini.

during a file search you get a list and if you click on a result then you have go back to home to and type it in search again.

is nickel menu any better?

i have no interest in the huge number of features in KO.

Even the search function in KO just as bad as previous with no back button.

I don't use KOReader all that much. I do remember when the search in the calibre DB was added as being a massive improvement over it's file based search. For the most part, Nickel/RMSDK/whatever the WebKit based renderer is called and Kobo's search works for me though I would prefer the back arrow in the upper left corner to go back one level at a time but I can live with it.
