Kindle Paperwhite LTE, books stuck in "Queue" Mode.
Hello! I haven't been to this forum in forever!
![]() Has anyone ever had Amazon Troubleshooting tell you to contact AT&T to find out if LTE is working in your area? This after three one-hour sessions with Customer Service/Troubleshooting which included multiple restarts, de-registering and registering the device again, and two - count 'em!- TWO factory resets. And we also the ;311 trick to connect to another LTE network. Despite all of these things, books. are. not. downloading. Still. Stuck in *Queue* mode. Oh yeah, I also left it charging overnight, still connected to LTE, for 11 hours - and the books never budged from *Queue* mode. This issue has been going on since Sunday night 02/13. Yep, I have the new firmware installed. So, likely not that, nor *lack* of that. But now I'm being told that I have to contact AT&T to see if there are LTE issues in my area. Uh.... I'm getting 4 Bars on the AT&T LTE network. And I don't even have an account with AT&T. So when I call, they won't talk with me; no account number, etc. So. Stuck Still. Of course Customer Service keeps telling me to connect to WiFi. I don't have WiFi in the home, nor do I use a SmartPhone. I suppose I could walk to the corner Panera and hole up there for a while with coffee and soup and sandwich, or whatever, But then, doesn't that in a way negate the idea of having *working* LTE? I specifically purchased that kindle for the LTE, and it's been working like a charm since October. ![]() Last edited by beautifulsoup; 02-15-2022 at 05:03 PM. Reason: changed wording in first question sentence of last paragraph. And fixing multiple typos. |

Sounds like you are sh*t out of luck. 3G is going away this year. Do a Google search on the phrase "3G ending."
This is one of dozens of articles that are there to be read - https://www.aarp.org/home-family/per...g-service.html One way or another you'll have to get your Kindle connected to Wi-fi, to use it, from here on out. |

Does it work connected to a different tower? Have you tried clearing the queue and downloading something really small first to see if that gets anywhere?

I thought LTE was 4G, not 3G. Will the older devices connect to 4G?

My mistake. I had my models mixed up. If you in fact have a 2018 32Gb Paperwhite with "Wi-Fi + Free Cellular Connectivity" then it is implied that you have a limited form of 4G. By limited I mean that the cellular will only kick in if you have no access to Wi-fi and you are purchasing a book from Amazon. Another limitation seems to be that this connection was not available in all areas. Since I never had any interest in a cellular Kindle it is interesting to go back now and read all the comments/reviews about this model and what people thought they were getting and what they actually got.

Update: Turns out I have the same issue when this Paperwhite is connected to WiFi! (Well, Panera WiFi, which is what I had available; we don't have WiFi at home).
Just tested it out this morning. So, there it is! Thanks to all for your replies! Last edited by beautifulsoup; 02-16-2022 at 03:38 PM. Reason: To add: "Just tested it out this morning." |

ARRRRGH - another update:
Replacement Kindle arrived today. I went through the whole set up process, did the manual update and... ... same problem. Looks like another long phone call with Amazon customer service tomorrow.. |

That's certainly weird. Have you tried if the same thing happens on the kindle app from your phone (if you have it installed)?
Cause if the same thing is happening on both LTE and wifi, and on different devices, the problem might be your Amazon account? It's something to look into. |

My Wi-Fi is economy so when I have super large e-books to DL I use Walmart Wi-Fi while shopping!

I don't have an app installed. I'm on an Old School flip phone. I spent another one-hour-plus with Amazon today, in which we did the ;611 trick to find out more information; and I went through a long question and answer thing about what I could - or couldn't - see. SO much stuff. It's being sent to tech support via a ticket, and I'm to hopefully get an email response on Tuesday. Fingers crossed. One thing I wasn't thrilled about, though, was that the replacement they sent was clearly an opened box; like maybe it was a return. Can't say for sure, though. Hoping it all works out! Thanks again. |

Now, it's WiFi only. Last edited by beautifulsoup; 02-20-2022 at 08:26 AM. Reason: Total re-edit to say that older devices used to connect to 3G, but no more. |
