Missing preferences icon

I recently downloaded the current version of Calibre, and I am missing the Preferences Icon. I thought that I might have corrupted the update, so I dileted everything, and started fresh with a new download. Same problem.
Any assistance would ne greatly appreciated. TIA

Does Preferences open when you type ctrl-p? If so, when you look at the Toolbars & menus entry, for the main toolbar, do you see Preferences in the Current Actions column? Is your main tool bar showing a ⋮ at the right end (indicates that you have more icons than can be shown in the current tool bar width) and if so, what does clicking on that show?

After you open the preferences with ctl-p, in there go to Toolbars & Menus and if it's on the left side, Available Actions, then add it back to Current Actions. Select the appropriate menu(s) from the drop down.

Also, check the very right side of your menu for a few tiny dots:

If they're there, click them. The button may have gotten pushed into the overflow section of the menu. If this is the case, either change icon size, check the "two lines for text under icons" option, or remove another toolbar button.

Move it to left end of the main toolbar by moving it to the top of the list in Prefs ->Toolbars and/or put it as first item in the main menubar
