Troubleshooting Kindle not recognizing some books from Calibre

Dear all, I have recently had trouble transferring books from Calibre to my Kindle Paperwhite. It recognizes only some books, but not others, regardless of whether the format is MOBI or AZW3 or DOCX. Books bought directly from Amazon show up like they always had. I don't think the index has crashed, because, as I said, it works with some books, but not with others. I really would hate to reset my kindle, because then I would have to start redoing all my collections. Perhaps someone in this forum has some advice.

I have the latest paper white and I have transferred a number of books in the last few days without any issues. I always transfer AZW3 formats. Maybe you need to restart your kindle.

I am having the same problem. Will show in Calibre and in windows explorer folder. Some books I can't even delete. I have restarted many times.

When connected to Calibre through USB, does Calibre report the book as being on the device?

For me, yes. I can see it in Calibre and file explorer. I was finally able to delete sideloaded books. I first "deleted" the folder from file explorer. It would not work if I searched and deleted individual files, I had to delete the folder. THEN, when back on my kindle, I had to remove the book from the collection and THEN I could delete it.

I have a few more to delete but its kind of a hassle so I'm leaving it be for now. I have noticed that my kindle has been acting... weird lately. May be reaching end of life. Probably not the same thing happening with you though. I bought mine used a few years back and I read on it for hours a day.

ETA: In the midst of these deletes, two of the missing books showed up. Not at the same time. No idea why.

ETAagain: Based on the other thread, I think a hard reset may help. Maybe too much old junk. Also may need to remove old kindles from my account?? (I'm not ready for that yet!)

I have the same trouble with AZW3 and mobi. It’s driving me nuts. I transfer books either through Calibre, or by pasting the book into the documents folder. Calibre shows the book is on the kindle, sometimes twice, yet the book never shows up. Even after restarting a number of times. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

This is on a Voyage and a PW4. The PW4 was recently reset to factory conditions because of this problem.

I have found that having multiple books on a Kindle with the same Amazon identifier (ASIN) causes it to act strangely.

Ironically I wouldn’t have a book on my kindle multiple times if it actually appeared once I loaded it for the first time.

Sorry, I just ended up switching to a Kobo, which I really like. No issues so far, and the transition was simple.

I’ve done that for main ereader for my fan fiction, I use a kindle as a backup device.

I just wanted to say I gave up with using my kindles for non Amazon books. I bought another Kobo, the Clara HD, to use as a backup device for my non Amazon eBooks, and to keep in my handbag. I had over 600 side loaded AZW3 files on my Kindles and I actually think the amount was the problem. I factory reset my three kindles to get rid of erroneous files and will no longer side load AZW3 files onto Kindles, going forwards my Kindles will be for Amazon purchases and all non Amazon ebooks will go on my Kobo’s.

Hmm I have about 3000 sideloaded AZW3 files on my Oasis 3. No issues so far...

As I edit the formatting of all my ebooks, nothing gets downloaded directly. All my books are sideloaded.
