Default import format

Hi folks,

When I add a book that is downloaded from Amazon as an azw file, I would have expected it to end up in Calibre as an azw3 format book, however it actually appears as a mobi one instead.

In preferences my preferred output format is AZW3 and the order in the "Preferred input format order:" box is EPUB, AZW3, MOBI.

Is an azw file actually AZW3 format?
Is there a way to get it to import as AZW3?

The .azw extension is used for several different formats depending on the Kindle device or app used to download it. Some possibilities are MOBI, KF8 (aka AZW3), and KFX. The actual type is determined when the file is imported into calibre.

In your case the file you are importing is actually MOBI format, not AZW3.
