Kindle Books have Different Cover When Downloaded

I used some of my no-rush shipping credits to "buy" Guards! Guards! from Amazon last night, and I noticed something that I've noticed multiple times in the past.

On the product description page, and in my digital library, I see a nice cover:

...but when I download it to convert for reading on my Kobo, I see a much uglier cover:

I used to not care about covers when reading on my Kindle PW1 as I only used the text only list view on the home screen, and never saw the covers once I started reading, but on my Kobo I see them every time it shuts off and suddenly care much more. :-)

It's easy to fix, but... WHY?!? Is there some way to get the nicer cover when downloading the book? [probably not, but this is as much a rant as a request for info -- haha]

EDIT: Looks like the cloud reader shows the same ugly cover -- so it looks like their marketing cover on the webpage doesn't match the ebook, no matter what.

I have seen the same generic internal cover on several books from HarperCollins. That must be the way the book was delivered to Amazon.

That book is also available on OverDrive for library lending. OverDrive shows the same non-generic marketing cover as Amazon. And if you borrow the EPUB you get the same generic internal cover that Amazon has.

Ahh....HarperCollins, no doubt. They always supplied this ugly generic cover years ago when everyone else had finally adopted the actual cover artwork. I don't know what their excuse is now for older books that have since gone through numerous revisions.

Yes, it is... good call. Quite annoying, and illogical.
