I am running Linux Mint,v19.3, and want to add the (new) ppa for Calibre to my computers.
however, after much searching, I have not been able to locate the proper wording to use in my terminal. Can somebody please assist me? Thank you.

Did you try the command line from the calibre - Download for Linux page?
Code:
sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin
There are alternates there as well for such things as certificate errors or changing the calibre install directory.

I would recommend using the direct from calibre-ebook.com method since the versions in quite a few Linux repositories are dated or have other issues.

Thank you very much. That is for the Calbre install; I am looking for the PPA install for Calibre.

No you really do not. A lot of Linux repositories either have an old version of Calibre or something wrong with it. Just get Calibre from the Calibre site and you'll be sure to have a proper version that works.

There is no PPA for calibre. You are using Mint 19.3--which is what I use--you have 3 choices for calibre:
  • Use the distro version--with Mint version 3.21*.
  • Use the Flathub version--version 4.12**.
  • Use the calibre download page--recommended

*Open Software Manage enter calibre in the search bar--will be the first option for calibre.

***Open Software Manage enter calibre in the search bar--will be the second option for calibre. Note the flathub version is huge 796 to download and 2.6 gb of disk space.

If you do not want to use the calibre download then I recommend using the Flathub version it will auto update when new version are released--about 2-3 days after Kovid releases updates.

As I wrote in the last sentence of my reply, "I would recommend using the direct from calibre-ebook.com method since the versions in quite a few Linux repositories are dated or have other issues."

Or are you wanting something like this:

add-apt-repository ppa:some_developers_ppa_site/directory
apt-get update
apt-get install calibre

If so, you do realize the method I posted installs calibre from the developer's site? That is where most PPAs are available from -- developer's making their work available without have to wait for the official repositories to slowly decide to add a package.

The only gotcha to watch out for is not all older distributions of Linux meet the pre requisites for the most current calibre installs from the official calibre website.

True. I've spent some time pointing people at the dependencies line on the Linux download page. The one that reads "You must have xdg-utils, wget, xz-utils and python ≥ 2.6 installed on your system before running the installer."

Thanks to all of you. I will do as I've done since the inception of Calibre, update from the Calibre site, install to my "opt" directory, and forget about using the PPA. Thank you all again.
