Kindle: redraw top status line on exit
It seems that the top status line is not redrawn on exit from KOReader.
Steps to reproduce: turn off Aeroplane mode, start KOReader, switch off wi-fi (menu Network), exit KOReader. The device is in Aeroplane mode but we see the wifi symbol in the top status line, which is a little bit confusing. Last edited by hius07; 03-12-2020 at 03:01 AM. |

Yeah, that may happen on some FW versions. Nothing much we can do about it, the stock UI is very shy about updating the status bar, and we can no longer control that.

Totally off-topic, but that reminded me of this thing I just read: https://www.facebook.com/notes/danie...55313440066102

Well, I see.
The worst case is if a user in Aeroplane mode enters KOReader, turns on wifi and later exits the program. He looks at the aeroplane symbol and is sure the wifi is off. Then he would guess what a mystical battery drain I had? As idea: a checkbox in KOReader settings "Restore wifi state on exit". |

@Frenzie: That was an excellent read, thanks!
@hius07: This very vaguely rings a bell. There might be an old issue about it. It would absolutely not affect the UI aspect of things, though, just prevent potentially unwanted wireless status on exit. (Incidentally, we do it on Kobo. Mostly because the device horribly crashes if we don't, but, still ![]() |

That was what my "we can"t control that anymore" was referring to

Okay, I'd missed @twobob's stuff because I mostly don't care about GUI stuff, but doing it the Hard Way (wmctrl) still kinda works.
The resize (as in, twobob's original example) is a bitch because the values are device-specific, so you'd have to parse the query output first, but it works (at the expected cost of causing a re-layout). On the other hand, hiding works over here on FW 5.9.7. (i.e., wmctrl -r L:C_N:titleBar_ID:system -b toggle, hidden). The catch, of course, is that this is a third-party tool that's: * Old, which might in turn end up affecting my next bullet point... (EDIT: although, it's in Portage, I happen to have it built on my system for some reason [EDIT²: dropbox], and the only patch needed is for 64bit compatibility). * Requires X11 libs, which requires going down a rabbit hole of dependencies. Which means it's proooobably not going to be happening ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 03-12-2020 at 08:05 PM. |

On the other hand, we do resort the Ye Olde' Ugly Hack to work this around: we restore a fullscreen dump taken at startup, which should restore the status bar, then wakeup pillow, which should refresh the clock, then force-switch to the Homescreen.
Which, incidentally, is why we might be using a stale WiFi icon for a while (i.e., until the state change, we're showing the startup state). |

@mergen3107: Thanks for the link to @twobob's stuff, I'd missed that at the time. Took the bull by the horns, this'll be fixed this way
