reader search results - need chapters, page

Hello,

If I do a search in the reader. Is there any way to have the search results include the chapter, sub-chapter, page in the results? It only includes a portion of the sentence. If not, please add this feature. Thank you.

Most of what you asked for in the other thread (the one that's been deleted by a moderator) can be shown in top and bottom margins, see Preferences->Headers and Footers. The exception being chapter name/number, although 'section' is often sufficient. And if the ToC is displayed the current chapter is bolded.

Adding chapter, page etc to the find sidebar would, in many cases, add a lot of worthless clutter to the sidebar list. So, if it were to be done, I would like it to be an option that could be toggled on and off.

No there isn't and I'm not interested in adding such a feature.

Thank you. The reason why I thought this would be useful is for textbooks. for example, if you are studying programming, for example, the search list only shows text, no chapters, that I could find. You have to pick every one and try to figure out what part of the book you are in, individually. Unless, I missed it, headers and footers don't even help once you select each one in the search list.

Did you explore the Header and footer settings in the viewer? (These are not, your standard footnotes)
There are 3 sections in each that could be configured. You should be able to resolve pretty close (not down to the Paragraph), using a combination of details.
True that the book has to have a decent layout and TOC entries

The OP asked for two different things in two posts. I answered the one which you deleted in post #2 of this thread.

My reading of the request in this thread is that it calls for similar information (chapter, sub-chapter, page etc) to be shown for each line item in the Search sidebar. When searching a text book context can be particularly important.

FX, a search for the word 'tag' in a programming book - the entries in the HTML chapter are probably referring something quite distinct from the entries in the MP3 chapter. Similarly a search for the term "The base" in a book on terrorism might have references to both bin Laden's al Qaeda, and the US white supremacist terrorist of that name - having chapter title would help differentiate.

Yes, I did explore, but the textbook has many subsections which I cannot specify. A breadcrumb list at the top would be most useful. I think this would be a common issue. More and more study in school with ebooks. Thank you

Yes, correct, thank you. I don't know why the other post was deleted, they are two different requests. Thank you for your help.

Breadcrumbs: title, chapter, subsection, subsection, etc., (also as links, like web pages) at the top of each reader page and for each entry for a search list would be very useful.

If the search results were slipped between ToC tree entries you would have something pretty close to that, the sublists would be collapsible branches. Something like this:

So what's stopping you from doing it

You dont need to figure out what part of the book you are in the ToC shows the current toc entries for wherever you are in bold. That works exactly like a breadcrumb.
