Please Help, Kindle Voyage Frozen, Brightness Loop every 10 seconds!

I have this kindle Voyage for 4 years which I barely used it. It is in 100% condition!! I ussually charged it for the first 3 years until its last year , I left it uncharged for about 10 months. What happened Last week I picked this kindle up because my friend wanted to buy it from me since I barely used it. I charged it to full and I sideloaded books and tons of PDF for him ,everything worked fine and I sent him the kindle. He received it and used it for a few days then he said the kindle got frozen on the main screen after he downloaded a book from Amazon. power button won't do anything and the brightnesss keeps looping The symptoms - The screen freezes , tried 40 seconds holding power with plugged and unplugged with the wall the charger. try different USB cables - Left charging about 24 hours but the LED is still orange (maybe because the screen is flashing and using the battery?) - Unplugged ; when I starts holding the power , the LED turn green and blinks for 5 times then it turns orange and blinks for 5 times then the brightness of the screen goes off and then on again - Computer won't detect the Kindle device. - If left unplugged , the screen will keep flashing for hours until you press the power key again justt to activate the brightness loop , unless the battery has run out ,then it really stops flashing even pressed the power key Do you guys think it's because of the battery? I'm desperate to fix this kindle because I already sold him and used the money to buy a tablet device ![]() P.S I opened the back of the cover and I removed the battery and it doesn't help. I'm going to put the video I recorded the actual footage of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kshU...ature=youtu.be Last edited by pdurrant; 09-16-2019 at 05:40 AM. |

Under the "can't hurt to try" category of t-shooting, have you tried 'resetting' it? where you hold the power button for at least 40 seconds? I think then you get a choice to "restore to factory defaults" or something like that. (I haven't tried, that's just what I read when I searched for 'reset a kindle voyage')

Press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds, ignoring any screen prompts. Set it down and wait while it reboots.

That cures a multitude of odd behavior. A reset to Factory is done via the menus on the device itself, and is the next thing to try if the reboot doesn't clear up the issue. |

What version of the operating system is it using? you could try updating it to the latest version (if it will let you get that far) - hard if the computer can't even see it, though...

could be that the battery isn't holding a charge - maybe the LED turns off due to the voltage dropping out or something? there are replacement batteries available which might be worth a try. |

as I have done in the video , holding power key for 40 seconds doesn't do anything , just make the LED blinking. I cannot use the factory setting method since the screen is frozen like in the video that I cannot even restart it : (

as for the OS version , I cannot check it right now since the screen doesn't go anywhere but I had updated to the lastet version before it got frozen so 2 months ago? |

I've heard this happen a lot with Voyages. The person I know who had this wasn't able to fix it. He contacted Amazon, but they couldn't do anything either. Sorry!

I have a paperwhite and this just started happening to me today after charging it. I can't reset it, even after holding the power button for 40+ seconds...just goes full brightness, then dims, then back to full brightness over and over :/

Interesting. I've never heard this before. Do you know if it's related to letting the battery run down and not using the device for long periods?

I have a Voyage that I rarely use, but I do charge it once a month to keep the battery active. Wondering if this will help prevent this problem from occurring. ETA: Oh, wait. If eddyj had this happen in the middle of a cruise, then I'm guessing the Voyage was in regular use? Last edited by odamizu; 10-19-2019 at 02:55 PM. |

This is odd. I have never had this happen to my Voyage.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the Auto brightness on or off? I keep mine on, and have had it slowly change when I have moved it around near a very bright light. Is that a possibility or perhaps your auto-brightness is malfunctioning? |
