Impressions of the Voyage auto brightness feature

What do you think of the performance of the feature and how well does it meet your reading needs in different light levels. How well does the "nightlight" setting work for you?

I find it is excellent and adjusts to my reading needs at the right time and the right level. It regularly selects the same setting I would choose manually. Although I never read in complete darkness, the nightlight feature, when tested, reduced brightness to a level 10. I did not see it go any lower in complete darkness, or when I covered the sensor with my thumb while in complete darkness, but perhaps it works slowly over time.

After playing with the Voyage for a couple of days I think the auto brightness feature works really well. I am not sure about the nightlight setting. I don't notice that it changes with time as it is supposed to. I do check occasionally to see whether the setting is different and it never is. Anyway, I am very happy with the light after coming from a kindle with no built-in light.

The auto-brightness feature works well for me, but I find the "nightlight" feature to be poorly implemented. Nightlight needs to be better integrated with auto-brightness; it is only useful when reading in a dark room, but I find it regularly dims the brightness on me after even in moderate to brightly lit rooms after few minutes. This is very annoying when I have already gotten the lighting set to where I want it. Worse yet, to activate or deactivaate the nightlight feature, it is necessary to go through several levels of menus to find the option. It needs to have its own check box right next to the auto-brightness box when you tap the lightbulb on the main upper menu. That way I would be able to easily select or deselect it as needed.

There's a difference between "night" and "auto" ? I found it annoying to have the brightness visibly change on me, when I changed my body position (causing the light to be in a different spot over my shoulder or something). I've turned off the "auto" brightness. But I do love the fact that the Voyage is lit. My K4 wasn't, and I love the Voyage for the lit screen! I just like to choose my own brightness.

I find it very effective. Initially the default settings were always too low but after I read about resetting my preferences for different lighting it has worked great. I never even open the lighting settings. I don't find the need. On my PW2 I was frequently messing with the light level.

No problem. Just open the lighting settings menu and make adjustments to the level but be sure that you have the Auto Brightness setting selected when you do it. It will learn your personal preferences under those ambient lighting situations.
