Calibre can't recognize Kindle Fire HD10
Hiya,
I was able to get the Kindle to work with Calibre upon installation. After downloading a plugin, the Kindle refused to connect to it. I uninstalled the plugin and the Kindle still can't connect and import the ebooks on the disk. The error I was given looks like this: calibre, version 3.44.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Cannot write to file: hr=2147500037 facility=0 error_code=16389 description: Unspecified error Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 89, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 512, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 217, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 189, in get_driveinfo File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 179, in _update_drive_info File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 150, in put_calibre_file File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 36, in check_thread File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 440, in put_file WPDError: Cannot write to file: hr=2147500037 facility=0 error_code=16389 description: Unspecified error What appears to be the issue? Thank you. |

That is an error communicating with the device. Usually, this kind of error can be fixed by
following the steps below in sequence. First: 1) Try rebooting both the device and your computer 2) If that does not work, find the files driveinfo.calibre and metadata.calibre on the device and delete them (you can use Windows Explorer or a file manager on the device itself to do this) 3) Reset the device If none of those work, you can use one of the wireless communication methods described here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...kindle-fire-hd |

Disregard, I figured it out. The USB slot is wonky and was not reading it correctly and when I moved it I was able to delete the files and it works like a charm now. Thanks so much!!!

Do you have any idea what might be wrong? I've done the following:
1) rebooted both the device and your computer (which didn't make a difference) 2) deleted driveinfo.calibre and metadata.calibre on the device then 3) Reset the device I can successfully copy a file on my (Windows 10) hard drive, then paste it to my Kindle Fire, so the usb connection is functioning. I've seen this reported several times over many years -- since my computer can communicate with the Kindle Fire, the problem seems to be with Calibre. Any thoughts on what might be wrong, and how to fix it -- not by going wireless, which is too slow, but by finding a bug fix in Calibre? Thanks for any help. Jonathan The error message is: calibre, version 3.46.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Cannot write to file: hr=2147500037 facility=0 error_code=16389 description: Unspecified error Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 89, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 512, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 217, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 189, in get_driveinfo File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 179, in _update_drive_info File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 150, in put_calibre_file File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 36, in check_thread File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 440, in put_file WPDError: Cannot write to file: hr=2147500037 facility=0 error_code=16389 description: Unspecified error |

In doing the "Get List of Books from Device" task, it seems to reach a certain file, then stop. After a while the error message below shows up. I deleted that file, then did it again, and it stopped on the next file in the folder, with the same error message (below). Do you have any idea what might be wrong? I've done the following:

You might run Windows Disk check (and repair) on the Fires drive you are trying to WRITE to. it may have a bad block.

There is no bug to fi, that error literally means calibre asked the Windows Portable Device service to put file (driveinfo.calibre) onto the device and the service respondedthat it could not, for unspecified reasons.

Thanks for the reply. Since Windows Explorer can copy files to the Kindle Fire, it seems the Windows 10 operating system can use this Windows Portable Device service, right? What would cause Calibre to not be able to when Windows can? Could Windows be blocking Calibre in some way? How could I check that? Thanks again for any help.

Sadly, I dont know of any way to debug this issue short of running calibre from source and instrumenting the WPD driver to try to figure out why windows is refusing to copy the file.

maybe that file or folder is locked by some previous fail ?. so the foler cannot be wrtten to or the file cannot be created ?
try to write a file of the same name into the same location using windows and see what happens ? confusingly K interprets the log as write (put file) fail but OP says it is failing on a read ( get book) operation ? |

If it was my device then. I would locate and rename that file, then retest. It may have been corrupted, or the device storage is about to fail.
I am guessing that calibre will recreate it, if not found. And error check the device drive as previously suggested, if possible. |
