Can't Add Books to Calibre

I can't seem to be able to add any books. I've tried adding a few at a time & then just one by itself.
I got this Error Message:

calibre, version 3.42.0
ERROR: Errors while adding: Failed to add any books, click "Show details" for more information
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to add the book: 30-Second Architecture: The 50 Most Significant Principles and Styles in Architecture, Each Explained in Half a Minute
H:\Kindle Non Fiction\30secart.sanet.st.epub
With error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\add.py", line 415, in add_book
File "site-packages\calibre\db\legacy.py", line 226, in create_book_entry
File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 63, in call_func_with_lock
File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1575, in create_book_entry

File "c:\t\t\apsw-zu_bhl\apsw-3.27.2-r1\src\cursor.c", line 236, in resetcursor
IOError: IOError: disk I/O error

Any help would be very welcome as I have a lot to add.

You may have a hardware problem or your A/V is blocking disk access.
(Disk) I/O error
You might run the Windows Error checkin tool on you Hard drive (the one with the Library if you have more than 1 drive.

You might also need to whitelist Calibre.exe with your A/V program (if the drive is not bad).

Thanks for the advice & the helpful comment!

It appears I can enter books singly or in pairs but not in bulk. Certainly better than nothing.

Be aware that your hard drive might be dying. Make sure you have backups.

You don't put failing cardiac patients on a treadmill.
A sick hard drive should be treated the same. As little use as possible (and absolutely no defrag)
Run to the store and get a new drive and CLONE the old one NOW. You might lose a couple of already damaged files BUT that is way better than having to start all over after installing Windows fresh, then all your apps, then restoreing files from backups.

I have used Clonezilla to successfully clone a drive with multiple OS (neither the WD or Maxtor clone tools included will do this). All you need is a replacement drive for you PC's needs (style), A USB caddy to hold it if there are no extra drive bays with connections. and the clone software that comes with the retail drive (or clonezilla). Once the clone is done, you replace the failing drive with the new one.
All these tools allow you to GROW the size of the replacement drive. eg 500G > 1T. just buy the size you want, even a SSD
