Aura HD Issues waking from sleep mode

Hi,

In recent months, my Kobo Aura HD is having issues waking from sleep mode. It doesn't matter if sleep mode is initiated by the cover or the button. It used to work flawlessly, so this is recent.

1) It will no longer remember that it was in the middle or a book or pocket article and return to the home page upon waking.

2) It will often, though not always, reboot the koko short after reopening the book or article.

Any help is appreciated:
- Is this an issue from a recent firmware update?
- Should I wipe and factory reset the kobo?
- Is my kobo just on the way out?

That could just be a corrupted database. I'd start with signing out and back into your Kobo account on the device to rebuild that before the nuclear option of factory reset. Any chance you've disconnected it from a computer without properly ejecting first recently? That's quite often the culprit to corrupt the database.

LOL, that reset and wiped everything anyway, so practically a factory reset. Will see if this makes a difference. Thanks!

It removes the internal database, the downloaded books and some other files that Kobo creates. But, it doesn't touch sideloaded books. They will be reimported after the setup is done. If you have sideloaded enough books, that is a big advantage.

Sadly, this and a factory reset still results in the Kobo randomly resetting. This only seems to happen in the articles I have saved from Pocket. So maybe the pocket app is broken. Which is annoying, because that's what I mainly use the Kobo for.

What firmware version are you running? There were some problems with certain pages in Pocket that triggered a reboot. This was fixed a sometime last year.

It could also be failing hardware such as the internal SD card. Replacing the card has fixed problems like you describe for a lot of people.

Btw, I can confirm that I did have this happen with the newest (4.7.10413) firmware, so I wouldn't go nuclear on it just yet.

I had it happen the day I got the ereader (KA1), and it was happening with articles that might have not been fully downloaded, when I tried to turn to the 2nd page, so initially dismissed it. But then I had it happen once more about 2 weeks later (I don't read pocket that much so it might happen more if I used it more), although this time it was in a different situation. I had been reading an article was on page 5 of 8, got up to look at something, then just as I returned before I could pick up my ereader, I watched as it rebooted.

I did a factory reset at that point and immediately updated from 4.4.9439 to 4.7.10413. It hasn't happened again, in the two weeks since the reset, but as I say, I don't read pocket enough to say it definitely won't happen again. But you've already tried a reset iirc.

It has never rebooted at any other time, so I think a pocket bug is the problem.

The firmware is 4.7.10413. I can confirm that this doesn't have any issues when reading a normal ebook from an epub. It goes into sleep and resumes from sleep with no issues.

It seems to be entirely a pocket article issue. Unfortunately, even after a full factory reset and making sure the articles are fully downloaded, the issue persists.

It still won't return from sleep back into the article I was reading and randomly reboots while reading a pocket article or attempting to go into sleep mode.

My Kobo Aura HD updated to 4.8.10956 last night and this issue seems to have been bug fixed :-)
