Hi,
Sooo I'd like to read books in cyrillic on my kobo glo, and I've put an ru-en dictionary in zip format on it in the same folder (dict) as all the other dictionaries, and I've even put a font that reads cyrillic on the root menu of my kobo, but while I can read files (epub) in cyrillic without a problem, the dictionary doesn't show up (or hasn't been transferred even if it shows up on explorer on my kobo?). Anyone knows what I did wrong (or didn't do?) Thanks a lot! |

@sparcina: Kobo doesn't actually support sideloading dictionaries. There are some ways to do it, and just dumping the dictionary file in the directory isn't the way. The thread that PeterT pointed to should have instructions, but I didn't see them in the first page. You might have to do a search for them.

IN a nutshell, you need to enable one or more of the pre-defined dictionaries (like German-English), then replace that dictionary with the one you want. So you'd rename the ru-en file to be de-en before putting it on the device after you have enable the German-English dictionary.

@dmapr
That's a good idea, and I did that (transferred the it-en dict to my desktop, put ru-en in the dict folder of my kobo, and renamed it it-en), but the 'new' it-en dictionary on my kobo still won't recognize anything Cyrillic, even very basic words ![]() PS: The it-en dict was already enabled on my kobo |

Oh my, I think I will need to ask a computer-savvy friend to help me with that one, but thank you, I'll check that!

BTW, I just checked if the russian-english dictionary I have installed works for looking up a word in a (cyrillic) russian epub. In principle, everything works fine but the dictionary that I've downloaded doesn't include too many definitions. At least, it can find "как" or "из".

I actually got as far as step 5 of this: (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=293052); i.e. I can't seem to find the Koboroot.tgz in the target folder now, so I'm stuck. But thank you for your help! Last edited by sparcina; 03-30-2018 at 02:53 AM. |
