Need Suggestion

I am using Calibre Portable (V 3.6) in a Windows PC.
Maybe these are already been suggested, but it will be very helpful for me if I get it here.

01. For .cbr/.cbz files, I cannot change cover as like .pdf from the 'Basic Metadata' window. Strangely, most of them shows 'last page of the book' as the cover page and that is locked also.

02. Autosuggestion of Author while adding a book is based on First Part of the name. It will be helpful if Calibre suggests even if my input matches with any last name. (for example, if I want to input 'John Smith' and type 'John', calibre suggest names starts with 'John', but if I type 'Smith', Calibre dosen't show names ends with 'Smith'.)

03. Is there any way to Assign a role of the Writer? What if someone is not the author, but is a translator? What if I want to keep both the names?

04. Is there any drop down column for books listed as 'read/unread'? If I want to sort the books in the list which I didn't read yet, what is the best option?

Q1 - AFAIK comics don't have designated covers.

Before I add it to calibre, I ensure first image in the zip (which what I always want as cover) sorts to the top - often by naming it as something like !cover.jpg.

Q2 - when adding comics (as ZIPs) I get author and title from the file name

Q3 - Use a Custom Column, something like

Either a custom column, as BetterRed suggested and most others do, or reuse an existing column that you don't otherwise use.

My choice is to use the Ratings column. Once I've selected a book and added it to my calibre library I have no interest in what other readers' opinions are. I use the Ratings column as a combined read/unread flag and personal rating. No rating means I haven't read the book, otherwise the rating is my opinion and its presence indicates that I've read the book.
