Hi, it's me again.
Well, I update Calibre to version 3.5.0, and now, everytime I start or restart the program, I see this message: ERROR: Problem starting the wireless device: The wireless device driver had problems starting. It said "attaching port to broadcast socket failed. This is not fatal." ![]() However, I can connect Moon+ Reader Pro to Calibre, and when I test the server, all is ok. Any idea? Best regards from Lima, Perú Blessings |

Do you use the wireless device? For example, do you use Calibre Companion?
That message means that the calibre wireless device was unable to open network connections (a "port") that it needs to support automatic connections. That can happen if some other programs on the computer are using all 5 possible ports (54982, 48123, 39001, 44044, 59678), or more likely your antivirus or other security software is preventing calibre from opening the ports. The reason the error is not fatal is that the wireless device also supports "Bonjour" (mDNS). An app (e.g., CC) that wants to connect as a wireless device can find calibre using one of the 5 ports, via Bonjour, or by directly entering the IP address of the calibre computer into the app. If you don't actually use the wireless device then you should shut it off in calibre by going to Connect/Share and clicking on Stop wireless device. |

Thanks for answer so faster. Yes, I use CC and also Moon+ Reader Plus. When I use only CC, all be right, so I understand that because I also connect Moon+ Reader Plus, Calibre "collapses". It's possible to add new ports for wireless connection?

No.
I don't think that changing the ports would fix the problem. Almost certainly there is something on your system blocking the ports. Whatever that is would block the changed ports as well. If you are running Windows then your antivirus SW is probably blocking the ports. |

![]() ![]() Calibre does not see Moon+ Pro. CC does. Only 1 wireless device connection port is in use. Does Calibre already show an On Device column? That would indicate that there is a established connection ( ![]() |

@mariaclaudia: run calibre in debug mode. The wireless device driver will print some information about ports. Post that information here.
Example: Code:
SMART_DEV ( 0.00: 0.003) _attach_to_port try ip address "" on port 9090 SMART_DEV ( 0.95: 0.852) _startup_on_demand listening on port 9090 SMART_DEV ( 0.97: 0.001) _attach_to_port try ip address "" on port 54982 SMART_DEV ( 0.98: 0.000) _startup_on_demand broadcast socket listening on port 54982 SMART_DEV ( 2.00: 1.014) run All IP addresses {'{4AFD7AF6-F037-4FA9-B866-8B2334C445C9}': [{'addr': u'192.168.120.4', 'netmask': u'255.255.255.255', 'broadcast': u'192.168.120.4'}], '{F0151E9B-47CA-11E7-93A5-806E6F6E6963}': [{'addr': u'127.0.0.1', 'netmask': u'255.255.255.255', 'broadcast': u'127.0.0.1'}]} |

This CC FAQ tells you how to do it. Scroll down to the "Calibre debug log" section.
There is nothing strange in that screen capture. |

Ok, that's strange. Yesterday, I access calibre with CC, by the way, CC is installed in my tablet, and also access with Moon+ Reader Plus, but from my movil, and then, I had the issue I mentioned. However, I uninstalled Moon from my movil and just use the one in my tablet, and now I access calibre with CC and Moon from my tablet, and nothing wrong. I guess that is or the IP (2 differents IP, one of my tablet and other one from my movil) or the Moon version.
This is the info you asked me before Code:
SMART_DEV ( 0.00: 0.003) _attach_to_port try ip address "" on port 9090 SMART_DEV ( 1.04: 0.829) _startup_on_demand listening on port 9090 SMART_DEV ( 1.19: 0.001) _attach_to_port try ip address "" on port 54982 SMART_DEV ( 1.31: 0.000) _attach_to_port socket error on port 54982 SMART_DEV ( 1.42: 0.001) _attach_to_port try ip address "" on port 48123 SMART_DEV ( 1.52: 0.000) _startup_on_demand broadcast socket listening on port 48123 Started up in 11.54 seconds with 16986 books SMART_DEV ( 2.70: 1.075) run All IP addresses {'{C328FED4-6A85-11DB-9FBD-806E6F6E6963}': [{'netmask': u'255.255.255.255', 'broadcast': u'127.0.0.1', 'addr': u'127.0.0.1'}], '{E47F594C-9B70-42E3-B725-8C957FA00D0D}': [{'netmask': u'255.255.255.255', 'broadcast': u'192.168.1.6', 'addr': u'192.168.1.6'}], '{52907083-ACDF-49F3-80FA-8CD5DCEB291E}': [{'netmask': u'255.255.255.255', 'broadcast': u'192.168.1.5', 'addr': u'192.168.1.5'}]} |

Are you completely sure that you don't have multiple instances of calibre running, perhaps as different users or different "bits" (32 vs 64)? |

Hi Mariaclaudia,
I had this problem when I updated Calibre Portable yesterday. I went from version 2.79.1 to 3.5 which meant that I had a lot of plug-ins to update. During the process of the plug-in updates this error message started showing. After the all of the updates were done. I reinstalled the Calibre Portable 3.5.0 on top of the first Calibre Portable 3.5.0 update and the error went away. I don't know if this will work with the regular Calibre program. But, you might try it. Or, uninstall 3.5.0 and reinstall it again. Good Luck, Ron |

It said "attaching port to broadcast socket failed. This is not fatal." But this time, I do not have Calibre Companion running, I just add a new column and restar many times (because I change the name, value, etc.), and suddenly the error is on. any suggestions? Sorry my grammar best regards from Lima, Perú Blessings |

Hi. I just wake up, and start my PC (I turn off at night, because before, what he did was put it to hibernate), and I just start Calibre. And nothingh happend!!! That's a good notice forme, however, it's very strange. I have Moon Reader + in my tablet and movil, Calibre Companion in my tablet and nothing more. I used CC 2 days ago, I don't use it frecuently. With Moon Reader also access Calibre server, but like CC, I don't use it frecuently. I set Calibre to start server when I start Calibre, but since yesterday, I turned off this option.
Well, I hope this issue will never "came back" again. Sorry my grammar, however I think I wrote better now. Best regards from Lima, Perú Blessings |
