Copy to device question
I've been using a Nook, but have just bought a Kindle Fire.
This demands conversion to AZW3 for everything, which Calibre handles beautifully. I'd like to find out however if there is a way to NOT save the converted AZW3 file after it is sent to the Kindle. My long term plans do not envisage staying with Kindle, so I have no desire to keep the AZW3 files as well as the existing EPUB's. As I only copy 20 to 30 books at a time to my device and this lasts me a long time, re-converting in the future is not an issue. And, yes I know I could manually delete them. Many thanks Last edited by ColMac; 11-24-2016 at 05:44 PM. Reason: clarity |

No, there's no way to do that.

It's very quick to delete them if you filter by ebook format. You could have a saved search to show all the books in AZW3 format and then simply select all, and delete. Three keystrokes.

Be sure to use the 'Context menu (right-click) or the small arrow on the delete icon: Remove books of a specific format
otherwise: you could end up deleting ALL of the books that (also) HAVE a AZW3 ![]() ![]() But why? ![]() If this was the around the year 2000 when disk drives of size were expensive: yes! This is 2016 where a 2T drive is less than some folks bi-weekly Starbucks tab ![]() |

Maybe a search for books that have both EPUB and AZW3 formats and then the right click to drop the AZW3 format.

Thanks for the extra info.
I probably will create an extra search. The reason I like clean files is not really a space issue, it is a time issue. When you effectively (more than) double the size of your data files, then it has an impact on back-up times, on virus scan times etc. Even the amount of memory the prog uses may be affected. On its own, this has probably a minimal impact, but when every program on your system leaves some "extra" data on your disc then it can mount up. As such I therefore try to keep some control where I can to keep un-necessary files from being created. Since I do daily back-ups and scans, this does have a real impact on the time taken and the space required for multiple back-ups. |
