Newbie install problem
Hello,
I downloaded the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Calibre. I am having trouble installing. When I run either .msi file, there is a several minute delay and then I endup with a Windows Notepad document full of gibberish characters. I have no idea what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Try downloading from one of the alternative sites here ==> calibre - Download for Windows. ISPs have been known to cache corrupted copies, the alternative sites are HTTPS which thwarts their caching.
If that doesn't solve the problem I suggest you run a decent standalone virus scanner over your system - I favour Malwarebytes. And then use the [Microsoft] System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files. If you want to try another .msi, this one is relatively harmless - BowPad - Stefan's Tools - it's a text editor tied with pretty ribbons ![]() BR |

If Notepad is opening on a MSI file, something has messed with Windows associations. (You would see this with any MSI file, not just Calibre)
You need to fix Windows. or, as BR suggested your ISP has intercepted the file and messed it up. ![]() |

The OP needs to either get a clean uncorrupted copy of the MSI or, more likely, fix the broken file associations in their Windows configuration. In the mean time, the OP could download and run the "Portable" versions. That version runs without being installed and would thus side-step the installer issues.

Thanks to everyone for their help. The problem, as some of your correctly identified, was the file association on my Windows PC. By right clicking on the MSI file, and opening with Microsoft installer, the installation worked fine.
