Install problem
The installation appears to go as it should but after I can't start the program, get the following error
"Python function terminated unexpectedly unsopported format character '('(0x28) at index 136(Error Code:1)" I't may be because when i tried to uninstall the previous version it failed, stupid me forgot to shut it down. I forced the uninstall to quit, after wich almost everything was gone. I tried to clean the registry with CCleaner, and deleted the folder. Tried several times to unistall and reinstall the new version, but that does not work. What to do??? ![]()

You have to make sure the old version is fully uninstalled. See http://calibre-ebook.com/user_manual...ing-on-windows

I have the exact same problem on both my XP machine and my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I have never before installed Calibre on either computer. Also, I have tried uninstall/reinstall to no avail. On first install, I was able to apply a few initial settings, when reinstalling I was not. Where are those settings stored?

Hi,
no they are both English versions, XP Professional and Windows 7 Professional (Dell OEM). I found the settings btw, C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\calibre in Windows 7; they are not deleted when uninstalling. Also, I found quite a few registry entries after uninstall in Code:
HKEY_USERS\...\Software\Trolltech HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trolltech edit: After deleting the settings and reinstalling, I noticed that the initial settings dialogue is in Swedish (despite me having an English language OS). I switched language to English in the "Region and Language" settings on the Control Panel and that did the trick =). Last edited by Plastic; 01-16-2010 at 05:03 PM. Reason: additional info |

Settings are not supposed to be deleted. That error message is caused bya bug in Swedish translation. You can workaround it by editing the file global.py in the config directory and adding the line
language = 'en' at the bottom of the file |

Thanks, that works. I did however choose "English" in the initial settings dialogue (I prefer using English language Software), so I guess that is ignored.
Thanks for your help! |
