Calibre gets slower and slower with each new update

I STILL say it and I don't care. With each new update and all the "added features" Calibre gets slower and slower. With this last update - I go to shut it down and I get this "ghost feature" where it shows that it is shutting down. I've never seen that before. It just flashes momentarily in the background. Why would I need that? I don't.

It really was there before, but it was not reliable. The new way was added months ago

Well, all added code adds additional complexity, but on average it might slow down by a few milliseconds, so... no...

I have not seen any noticeable slowdowns. At least not from upgrading -- my gigantic library with several custom columns built from other columns is slowing things down.
But it is still quite manageable even so.

This was a recent change, and what it means is that while calibre is shutting down it pops up a message saying so.
But it is not taking any longer to shut down than it used to.

What does the shutdown screen have to do with your claim that calibre slows down while running?

@allowingtoo - the 'ghost screen' at termination was introduced when "Library Closed Plugins" were introduced. So far there only one Library Closed PI ==>> Save Composite Custom Columns.

IIRC the 'ghost screen' provides a 'surface' on which a progress bar/wheel can be displayed, otherwise it's transient.

Save Composite Custom Columns supports the operation of Calibre Companion on Cloud storage.
