default action for delete
hi,
is it possible to choose the default action for the "delete" button I mean... I'd like for it to be : "delete from device" by default as long as device is present thanks. |

No, but you can assign a keyboard shortcut to whatever action you want to be the default and use that instead. Although there is no action like "delete from device if device connected other wise delete from library". IMO such an action is a bad idea as it makes a destructive operation -- deleting -- unpredictable in its effects.

Yes I again failed to express myself correctly, I just meant that of course it wouldn't delete anything if device is not present.
However as long as: -1 there's the calibre popup -2 it sends them to the garbage bin I don't really see the problem myself but that's just me, and I guess by most people's standard I'm probably an advanced user to begin with xD Thanks a lot. I cannot remove a book using the delete key on my mac keyboard. I have to manually right click on the book to bring up the menu > choose remove books > remove selected books.
Is there no way to map the delete key to automatically delete a selected book? I am trying to clean up a bunch of duplicates, and using a keyboard shortcut would make this go a lot faster. |

fn delete/forward delete was the issue
Thanks,
I figured out what was so confusing about the delete key issue.bThe icon for delete in the drop down menu is the same as the delete key on the mac, but I just realized that it is pointing to the right, the wrong direction. The delete key on all macs in recent memory all have delete keys pointing left. After going in preferences, I figured out that this had to mean forward delete was the default shortcut, not delete. Additionally, macs do not have a forward delete key, as we have to press fn + delete to implement forward delete. I can't assume I am the only one who has been puzzled by this, maybe in a future update you could have the default icon state fn + delete vs. the confusing right-pointing forward delete key that is non-existent in macs. Umm as far as I know, mac keyboards that have only a single delete key have no arrow on it at all. And the delete key actually functions as a backspace key. I can certainly add backspace to the default shortcut for remove books.

On second thoughts, I just changed the default shortcut to backspace on OS X -- less disruptive.

Will that change only apply to new installs?

It depends. If you have customized that keyboard shortcut it will not apply, otherwise it will.
