interesting email with BoB about cybook coverage
Im considering buying a cybook in the next month or two ( unless the Readius comes up with a retail price i can aford in the next month ROFL ).
My only concern is the rate of screen cracking / breaking etc. Well if you go to the BooksonBoard.com site and check out the accident insurance plan they offer they state you get one free screen replacement per contract bought. I verified the following hypothetical situation with the email support people. Buy a cybook, 6 months later screen breaks, get it fix, buy ANOTHER accidental damage plan and get ANOTHER free screen replacement! This would be WAY cheaper then if you had to sent the machine back to bookeen for repair ! Baiscally .. buy a cybook with 2 year plan for $60 and get one free screen fix ( vs $120 from bookeen ) if it breaks, get it fixed and spend another $60 for another screen replacement if worst happens. So you could get 2 screens for $120 instead of one. For those that have the worry or have had the problem happen this seems to be a great piece of mind. OOHH another plus is they are based in the US so you wouldnt have to ship it over seas of you are in the use ( they also service canada ) |

On the other hand, you're spending $60 for nothing if, as is the case for the overwhelming majority of users, your screen DOESN'T break

not really, its not JUST for damaged screens but for any accidental damage.
Just another piece of mind for a big ticket item. The screen thing I just counted as a bonus after reading some of the stories about breakage =) |

It is, however, perhaps worth noting that (at least in the UK), many home contents insurance policies cover accidental damage. Perhaps a good idea to check whether or not you need additional protection before spending extra money.

In the UK if you damage your Gen3 and then claim on it, does your insurance rate go up?

A single claim certainly shouldn't affect your insurance premium. Obviously if you made a claim every 3 months it probably would

Let's not forget - and many users do - that a substantial percentage of credit cards (and not just the premium ones) offer some sort of purchaser protection free. The most common period for accidental damage cover is 90 days.
