PRS 350 locked up after failed charge

I bought a charger that was supposed to charge 'ereaders' but it was only 200mA and it didn't work. I read a thread here that suggested i needed at least 750mA so i bought one with 1000mA output.

Unfortunately, that too failed. After maybe 20 seconds i again got the 'charging stopped' screen -' no power supply is being detected'.

Doubly unfortunate, because this time i can't seem to get rid of this screen. I've stuck a paper clip in the reset hole, but to no avail.

Can anyone help please?

PS I now have a Sumvision Micro power supply with 5.2v 2000mA output. Would it be safe to give this a try?

You need a charger that adheres to the USB standard. Sony Readers will not work with a USB charger that's Apple compatible. It needs to conform to the same pin out as the USB on your computer.

Some cell phone chargers will work like for Blackberry or Samsung (pre-smartphone I know work).

What happens if you use a standard micro usb cable and connect it to your computer? I'd try that first.

Also, from the MobileRead wiki it suggests you need to press the power button after pressing the reset button to awake the reader:

Quote:
1. Locate the reset button access hole. It is labeled RESET and, depending on your model, can be found on the back or bottom of your Reader device.
2. Using a thin object such as a paper clip or stylus (included with touch models), press the RESET button.
3. The screen will not change after pressing the RESET button. You must now slide the POWER switch to turn on the Reader device again.

Thanks for the info - the description of the item says "Outputs 5v like your Computer/Laptop USB Port". Which now seems a tad misleading. I wish i'd understood this before i bought. Finding an unequivocal description with 'USB standard' is practically impossible in the UK it seems.

Would it be safe to try the sumvision power supply? Is 5.2v too much? Can i check if it is USB standard'?

Thanks. Just about to say "tried all that" and sitting at my PC with the ereader plugged in, it suddenly burst into life again!

Great to hear it has sprung to life :-)

Don't think there would be any harm in trying your sumvision power supply. I personally use the USB cable that came with my 350 and an AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet, and it charges a multiple of devices. The only issue is it not providing enough charge for my tablet.
