Hello everyone. I've had a Kindle Keyboard 3G for several years now and it's survived a lot. Today, though, I was reading a book, then put the kindle into my pocket for a moment and when I took it back out, it was stuck on the boot screen.
I've tried rebooting it multiple times; it always hangs somewhere on the boot screen or a short time after boot; I haven't managed to get it to open a book or move the cursor more than a couple of entries down. I've also disassembled and reassembled the device to check for possible internal damage. Haven't found any, and the problem's still there. Any ideas as to what might be causing this and/or how to determine that? I have a JTAG adapter on its way to me, so that is also an option when I finally get it. Thanks in advance. |

Moved to the dev forum, where you're more likely to get help with this issue.

A JTAG adapter will not help you - the device addresses on the JTAG bus are not published (nor are the pin/signal names). You may need a low voltage serial to USB adapter for the serial port. On the K3, that is easy to connect to. See the entries in the master index on the subject. Leave any advice about putting it into 'diags' mode as a last resort. Why? The firmware in some of the K3 devices required you to have a serial port to exit back to main mode. (Not a rumor - I own one of them.) Keep the device on a wall charger, that battery is getting fairly old and my have very limited storage capacity. If your info block is correct, your K3 isn't running the most recent firmware - so it is always subject to an OTA update at any time. This sounds **exactly** like an OTA update that will not finish installation. But it may just be a recently added 'bad book' as suggested above. |
