Software wise, is there any difference between PW1 and PW2 with the latest firmwares installed?

Yes. The v5.6 firmware which gives you much better control over Cloud collections, and better search facilities, isn't yet available for the PW1; it's only available on the PW2 and the Voyage. I'm pretty sure that Amazon will upgrade the PW1 (and perhaps even the Touch) at some point, but it hasn't happened yet.
