Troubleshooting PW1 vs. PW2 - 2014

If anyone has both, I would be interested to know if the screen color on your PW1 is whiter than your PW2 - 2014 (less creamy or yellow).

I got a PW 2014 today and the screen is "creamy or yellowish" rather than the white of the PW1. If there are only creamy ones available then I'm faced with a new problem. Thank you!

The screen color of my PW1 is creamy. My PW2 is white white white - the screen is perfect. I bought both on release date.

My PW2 is more warm, but not overly so. More creamy rather than yellow.

I went through quite a few replacements on both the pw2 and the pw1 and can say the warm and cool tones varied greatly between all of them. I don't think either device has consistently warm or cool screens from what I saw. In many cases, even within the same tone, they varied. I remember at one point when I was dealing with an Amazon rep trying to help me get a decent pw1 and having a bunch in front of me and every screen varied in cool and warm tones and also in saturation of tone.

My personal experience was that the pw1s I saw were generally cooler in tone than the pw2. However, you'll see above my post that joehunt's experience was the opposite. So I think it simply varies.

I received my pw2 from amazon uk yesterday. I was quite disappointed as the screen looked like it had a yellow tint to it. Along the top and bottom of the screen there is a narrow band of white, which makes the yellow tint appear like a band in the center of the screen.

I was expecting the background to be white, it is after all called the "paperwhite", so i think quite reasonably i was expecting a white not yellow background. I have ordered 2 more pw2 to see if the screen is better on those. Otherwise i may just stick with my kindle 5th gen, as although i prefer the appearance of the text on the pw2, i don't like the yellowish look it has to its screen. My 5th gen kindle looks whiter and better in that regard.

I also didn't find the pw2 particularly sensitive to my touch. Sometimes i had to press several times before my intended action took place, such as page turning or pressing the home button to get back home.

My experience is similar to sparklemotion's...the two PW1's in my house are significantly cooler (blue tint) than the PW2 (2013). I like the bluer tone more and so gave the PW2 to another family member.

Thank you all. The color is disturbing to me. Seems overly yellow. Not sure if I should try again. Starting to feel a bit boggled by replacements.

I think a look at BB would be worth it.

We have a PW1 and a PW2. The PW2 is a creamer tone but it's still whiteish

The PW1 is on the left with Chapter One at the top. Same font same size, both at full brightness in room with light off.

When compared to my KV and my PW1, my PW2 is strikingly yellow, like the top of the KV, and similar to the color of your pictures - my monitor isn't calibrated.

My picture was taken with my iPad and it seems more yellow when viewed on here ( using my iPad) than with my eyes. Overall the Carta screen, which the PW2 and the Kobo Aura H20 have is a more creamy/yellow tone than the blue white of the pearl screen which is in the PW1

The voyage screen, when evenly lit is a beautiful screen, and quite different in color than the PW2 I received. The PW2 reminds me of an old paperback, and I always disliked the page color. The Voyage, some of it anyway, is more like fine paper that is used for writing or in a hardback book.

My Note 3 battery swelled up overnight so since I had to have something sent to me, I ordered another PW2 for comparison. It's a nice screen, truly, but I now have three different Kindles with screens I hate, all for different reasons. If the 2nd one comes with the same yellowish colored screen then I'm done with PW2s. I'll keep my PW1 and wait until the KV issue has been fixed or a new KindleX comes out.

I was almost sort of happy with my KV #1 until I turned it landscape.

I ordered 4 additional paperwhites, which arrived today, in the hope of getting a better screen after the paperwhite i originally received had a very yellow screen.

2 of them had a yellow screen, but luckily the other 2 had a white screen, with one being whiter than the other. Looks so much better than the first pw i received, and is how i would have expected it to be.

So out of a total of 5 paperwhites, 3 had a noticeably yellow screen. And only 1 had a very white screen.

I will probably order a voyage when it's released in the UK, just to compare to the pw i'm gonna keep. But this time i will order 3 voyages to increase the chance of getting a good screen. Amazon really does need to do something about their quality control, as i imagine many people have bought a pw with a yellow screen and thought that's how it should be.

There is a world of difference between a good pw screen and a bad pw screen. Now to send the bad ones back!

Amen to everything you just said here! Due to the poor screens, etc., on the KVs and the PWs (1 and 2) that I've gotten, I'm ready to give up, but you have given me HOPE! Thank you for posting!

PW2 2014-#2 just arrived. Fingers crossed for a good one with a nice white, not yellow, screen.

Well, #2 is more yellow than #1 and the screen is a bit blotchy at first blush, in comparison.
