Port Linux App or Java App?

Hey all! Just got back into my kindle, haha.
I've been using Spotify almost exclusively for music, and I would love to have a spotify app on the kindle.
So, should I attempt to port an already-existing spotify application for the kindle, or do I go the "proper developer" route and make an azw2 with a spotify application in it? Can an azw2 play audio?
I'm also on Windows and my background is mostly in java, so if feasible I'd prefer to go the java route, just looking for input.

I don't know how about including ready compiled java files into an own azw (don't know about spotify's app nor java advanced features).

My Experience: I was porting a java printserver (had the sourcecode).
- All the static-variables killed me (somehow kindle could not handle some)
- everything that needs files makes problems at first
- the +-Operator for Strings is not usable (so almost all debug/error/whatever-Messages will just make the kindle stop the programm without telling)

Maybe you encounter some of these errors.
Otherwise I'd advice you to buy some smartphone with an app. Probably more timesaving...

My opinion: Most of the newer e-ink kindles don't have sound. Probably not worth the official azw route. If you find an open-source front end to spotify, go for it - it would be a great leaning experience, but in the end, it is still not really a great tablet. It IS a great ereader, and I did make compile pianobar (front end for pandora) for my linux touch. Great fun doing the compile and stuff, so if it's for your own pleasure, do what YOU want! I doubt there is a market for it...

Have fun!

hm a command line client would be pretty easy:

post 31 has directions for pianobar, SHOULD be simple to convert?

Okay, I'll probably go the linux app route, then. Though I'd still like to figure out how to get custom kindlets running on my kindle, haha.

Unless your joking . . . .
Just look up the information in our (sticky) master index:

Note: The "Kindlet Jailbreak" mentioned is now known as: MKK
