Will 3.0-3.2 Jailbreak a K3G running 3.4?
I can't seem to find a definitive yes or no after searching the forums. I recently picked up a second K3G for "experimenting" but it's been 4 years since I jailbroke my first K3G.
This thread seems to imply the jailbreak still works for 3.4 but it could also be taken as "if you've already jailbroken your kindle then 3.4 doesn't break the jailbreak". Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! Extra Info: My Kindle: Kindle Keyboard 3G (SN starting with B006) Ultimately my main reason for jailbreaking is to install myts so I have a portable and simple terminal emulator, perfect for controlling Pi related projects ![]() |

Moved to the Dev forum, where questions about jailbreaking belong.

This thread should cover it.
(Spoiler: there's a specific JB variant for the latest FW, if it's second-hand and you don't know what might still be installed, it might be an issue, but if it's vanilla or refurbished, you're good to go). Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-25-2014 at 03:22 PM. |

Hi NiLuJe, thanks for replying, I've been reading through that thread already and now your response actually confuses me more
![]() Worst case if as knc1 suggest I try it will it simply not work? My worry is trying it and then getting into a tight spot like Monovertex got himself into which required him to run Kubrick. As for the Kindle itself I'm 99% sure it's untouched, the guy I bought it from said he barely used it and when I mentioned that I was planning on Jailbreaking it he said he had never really done any of that. It isn't here with me now but when I get home I'll connect it and see if I can find any telltale signs it's been modified. |

Specific variant/version, my bad. (it'll be fairly obvious once you've opened up the jb archive/read the install instructions).
It's completely harmless whether it works or not, no worry there. |

Is this what you mean?
*Note for Kindle >= 3.1 Users:* If you haven't done so already "either with >= 0.5.N or yifanlu's jailbreak" please update your jailbreak hack. This to me this reads as only for people that already had a jailbreak installed and were needing to update it, ie not a virgin install. Also, because the thread only specifically cites versions up to 3.2 it was unclear if this really is >3.1. I did read through the readme.txt before even coming to the forums, I don 't ask questions without trying my best to read through all relevant posts. In the case of your thread it is 298 pages and I went back to about pg 220 and saw no definite answers regarding 3.4 virgin install. Anyway thanks for the info, I'll give it a shot when I get home tonight. Just to avoid future people asking the same thing why not just update the first post in that thread to include 3.3 and 3.4? |

@jphphotography:
About your quote, yes, update implies it's aimed at previously jailbroken users ![]() What I thought was tripping you up was the 3.0-3.2 thing, which is, well, aimed at people running 3.0.x to 3.2.x. Since you aren't, that doesn't apply to you either. Which leaves you with the plain, classical install instructions: drop file, click button, enjoy ![]() In most cases, and especially in such long-winded threads, always go by the first post only, since the first few pages will be extremely outdated at best, completely wrong & misleading at worst ![]() Those devices are EOL, which is why you don't see any detailed supported FW range, and only 2.x & 3.x, which means everything. That also means the simplest and default explanation is made for the more common software at the time you'll be reading it, i.e., the latest, 3.4 ![]() ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-25-2014 at 04:41 PM. |

So just for utter unabashed clarity I use the "Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_k3g_install.bin"

@jphphotography: Yup
![]() Don't worry, you're not the first to have been tripped up by this need of two different variants for the same device, depending on the FW version it currently runs ![]() |
