My Kindle Paperwhite 2 is dead

My Kindle PW2 has the "Repair Needed" screen right now. How do i fix this? I'm out of warranty and I don't want to buy a new unit right now.

I have already tried holding the power button for 20 seconds to reboot to the tree screen while the usb is plugged but my computer can't see the drive. After every reboot it always goes back to the "Repair Needed" screen.

Please help me! Thanks in advanced!

If you've never installed anything custom (particularly USBNetwork or the Rescue Pack), or you don't feel like/have the skill to open it up and get serial access, you're screwed.

Have you tried asking Amazon to replace it anyway? They are known to be rather forgiving of such things.

You might call Amazon and see what they say, I've heard they often offer a new reader at a savings. Or since tomorrow is Black Friday, pretty sure the PW2 is on sale for $99, you'd save at least $20 if you do end up having to get a new one.

Not applicable.

Serial interfaces can be useful in the OP's case where the "Repair Needed" screen pops up.
That is software damage.

You have a busted screen,
That is hardware damage.

another thing.. I don't know if it's really only the screen.. because the light flashes on and off.. it's quite strange that I can't see anything.. and still more strange that it happened plugging it in the wall charger (with an original adaptor!)

That will not help you to repair the broken screen.

There is a good chance that the problem is not the screen, but instead the hardware that drives the screen.
That would explain the 'boot loop' the device is caught in.

Hmm...
If not ready to trade it in for a new one - -
I would buy a "used, for parts" Kindle (same model) with a broken screen, and swap the hardware (everything mounts to the back of the screen).
That should give you a working device.
I.E: Because of the boot loop, it is most likely that your screen is good and your hardware driver on the mother board is bad.

It's a broken screen. A photo was posted and seen before taken down for being too large.

It is just a broken screen. It is not the motherboard.
