Hello,
I am using Windows 7 and it had worked fine with Calibre for a quite long time. Since a couple of days ago, when I try to convert or remove new files, I came to get the same error message and can't do anything. What can be the problem? Please help me! The error message is: calibre, version 2.11.0 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>error</b> ![]() calibre 2.11 isfrozen: True is64bit: False Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 Windows ('32bit', 'WindowsPE') 32bit process running on 64bit windows ('Windows', '7', '6.1.7601') Python 2.7.8 Windows: ('7', '6.1.7601', 'SP1', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: DeDRM Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\convert\single.py", line 272, in accept File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\convert\metadata.py", line 236, in commit File "site-packages\calibre\db\legacy.py", line 465, in set_metadata File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 57, in call_func_with_lock File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1207, in set_metadata File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1202, in set_field File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1007, in set_field File "site-packages\calibre\db\backend.py", line 1409, in windows_check_if_files_in_use File "site-packages\calibre\utils\filenames.py", line 348, in __init__ error: (123, 'CreateFile', '?? ??, ???? ?? ?? ?? ??? ??? ???????.') |

Interesting, that's same error as in this thread ==>> Can't delete books from my library
@Dui - in that the instance the problem was solved by the user moving library from drive d: to drive c: - IMO not an entirely satisfactory solution, because it doesn't explain why... BR |

Perhaps accented characters in the volume label?

This will be because the path to the library contains characters that cannot be represented in the mbcs encoding (many windows systems use a non utf-8 encoding as the mbcs encoding). The fix is to simply move the library to a simple path like c:\library

That was my first thought with Petkov's thread - so I relabelled a thumb drive as Bibliothèque - no problems converting or deleting in a library folder called 'Library'. I couldn't re-label to a non Latin string unless I was willing to tweak Windows languages, which I wasn't.
When I changed the library folder name from 'Library' to 'библиотека' I got the reported error - as expected. BR |
