Unhappy Error 123, help!

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 and it had worked fine with Calibre for a quite long time.

Since a couple of days ago, when I try to convert or remove new files, I came to get the same error message and can't do anything. What can be the problem? Please help me!

The error message is:

Interesting, that's same error as in this thread ==>> Can't delete books from my library

@Dui - in that the instance the problem was solved by the user moving library from drive d: to drive c: - IMO not an entirely satisfactory solution, because it doesn't explain why...

This will be because the path to the library contains characters that cannot be represented in the mbcs encoding (many windows systems use a non utf-8 encoding as the mbcs encoding). The fix is to simply move the library to a simple path like c:\library

That was my first thought with Petkov's thread - so I relabelled a thumb drive as Bibliothèque - no problems converting or deleting in a library folder called 'Library'. I couldn't re-label to a non Latin string unless I was willing to tweak Windows languages, which I wasn't.

When I changed the library folder name from 'Library' to 'библиотека' I got the reported error - as expected.
