Is there a way to change autor Last, First to First Last?

I know I can change these individually but I am looking for automation. After importing all my books, I notice about half of them are in the format of "Lastname, Firstname" and I would like them all to display "Firstname Lastname" yet to sort on the last name still. Changing them all manually is going to be quite tedious. Is there a batch way to make the change?

Go to Preferences : Adding Books and look in the top right corner:

Are you saying to use the option to switch the first and last name? That would mandate that the books and been pre-separated before adding them, correct - divided into ones that need to be reversed and those that don't.

I know in MP3 tag editors, this is usually a feature to correct tags already read into the program. Something like that would be nice.

Nyssa, that doesn't help after the books are imported.

fotonut, try the Quality Check plugin. It can search for incorrect author names and it can also "swap author FN LN <--> LN,FN"

See Preferences ==> Advanced ==> Plugins==> Get new plugins.

You want the "Quality Check" plugin. It has an option to find all these authors like this and then fix them.

Thank you, that did it!

For others who wish to delete or add an author comma in the Calibre Library here is step by step how I did it. I installed the plugin, then I entered in the search line:

authors:,

This gave me a list of every author name with a comma in the field. I then did a CTL-A to select all. I then clicked the Quality Check icon, the "Fix" option, the "Swap Author FN LN...." and then clicked the "Fix" option to the right of that. It took a couple of minutes where parts of the screen blocked out but then when it completed and the screen refreshed, all the author names had been formatted like I wanted. Thanks to all and the super fast response! This has to be a record for help provided. Very nice!

@fotonut you might also want to eyeball the author list in Manage Authors - right click an author name in book details.

Authors with multi part family names (e.g. St. James), unhyphenated double barrel family names (e.g. Bonham Carter) or some East Asian names (Chinese, Vietnamese Korean... e.g. Dương Thu Hương) will probably be have incorrect author sort names, so William Smith Jones will be Jones, William Smith when you may prefer Smith Jones, William.

If you fix them in Manage Authors (manually) then they will not show up as red errors in metadata edit. I'm sure what the Quality Check PI does with authors with manual author_sort overrides - hopefully it ignores them.
