A question about 3G
I remember read somewhere that 3G kindle has 50mb cap per month. Just curious this 50mb cap is per device or per kindle account?
Thanks |

Check on the Amazon Help pages for that info. I think it only applies if you are out of your home country, anyway. The cap does not include book downloads.

I don't remember ever hearing that someone actually had hit the cap. It might be more of a threat as to what they might some day have to do to protect themselves, rather than a reality.
When out of my home country, I've used the 3G browser a lot to read news sites, as well as for email and Mobileread. I was never was hit by said cap. It may be that the only way you would hit the 50MB on a device, or even on a multiple device family account, is if you engaged in a likely terms of service violation such as tethering the internet access to another device. |

Gotta love the Kindle Keyboard with its unrestricted 3G! The OP should note that it isn't like that with more recent devices - 3G is limited to Amazon and Wikipedia.

Unfortunately some sites are really badly written. e.g. some forums using the ASPplayground.net engine can hit 1.5 Mb per page load. Yes, a good part of that is normally cached from page to page on a desktop browser but in the K3 experimental browser, just catching up on a few topics one is following can chew through a month's data allocation in an hour. My experience was that my spare K3 on the same account also got restricted even though it was rarely used for web browsing.

Checking out ASPplayground.net, unless there is a text-device-friendly variant I am missing, it is the kind of web site I wouldn't use on my Kindle Keyboard. It comes up fast enough, at least when in WiFi range, but the font is too small, and you get the zoom option prompt which is an exercise in frustration to use. I use the Kindle browser for sites that are optimized for text -- with the one, occasional, exception of Gmail. And Gmail has to first be set up to optimize for text devices, something so confusing that I'd hesitate to explain it. Here are some of my old posts with Kindle eInk-friendly web sites: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=144 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=145 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=146 And lately I read the Taipei Times: http://www.readingthenet.com/mob?ct=...eitimes.com%2F or http://tinyurl.com/k92ka6p I suppose that these types of links, besides working well, do not use as much bandwidth. You mean the general merchandise Amazon, or books for Amazon?
For general merchandise, none I've found are good. And worse of all is the built-in Amazon browser favorite. The closest to usable, for me, is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw Is that what you tried? Quote:
touch.facebook.com Despite the word "touch," I think it is supposed to be the best of the bunch of Facebook sites for smaller devices. Others to try include m.facebook.com and 0.facebook.com. You also can try the links here, including one for Facebook: www.kinstant.com However, I have more luck creating my own favorites, processing them through www.readingthe net. The Kindle Keyboard, as a whole, including the browser, is best for long texts with few illustrations. |

Books only! I only wanted FB to contact a lady I was meeting at KMart. Thought she might have left me a message. She never did was a no show on me buying a lighted cover for the K3.
